Not that we are suffering from a shortage of smart-assed remarks around here, but I don't see why that is necessary. I think EVERYONE was making great points in the other thread.

Alaska Flyer:

To my knowledge, all humans to date (except Lazarus if the PR is to believed and we discount deities in human form) die.

If your perception (there's that darned perception problem again) of me stating a known fact is a "smart-ass remark" I deeply apologize.

Or are you aware of some way to side-step this inconvenient truth? Please share.

I concur that there were some good points made. Watch the videos. There is some really good flying there.

Indeed we are all going to die sometime. Heres hoping that it is on your own terms instead of some jerk pilot's :)

Cool video. So how many died making that. My guess is like half. [-X

Re: More Low Passes to Terrorize the Sheeple

I enjoy low passes, P-51s, gliders, all of 'em! Gliders are just amazing. They are so effecient with newer 18 meter (59') ships having an L/D of over 50 to 1. When they fly by it sounds like a jet without the engines!

Rule of thumb for glider low passes is that every knot of excess speed can be traded for about 9 feet of altitude. So if you start a pass near VNE (146 knots in my ship), and do the pull up at 110 knots, then you can climb to 450' by the time you reach 60 knots. 450' agl is more than enough to fly a full pattern and then some.

"Colin
We were excited to heli in Silverton — until we saw the bird. Looking like something your stoner uncle built in the garage out of four Meccano sets, a fish tank, and an AMC Pacer, this helicopter seats a pilot plus two only, making it a tricky vehicle, logistics-wise, when your group has 8 people in it. Re: More Low Passes to Terrorize the Sheeple

DARN good links, Mark: No apologies needed. =D>

Then there's the chap at the OLD Black Forest Gliderport who used to do INVERTED low passes, roll out on finals. He's still doing variants somewhere in the West, so shall not be named here.

That said, these folks ALL have outstanding skills. And it can set a bad example for those who have NOT practised these exercises at altitude.

Mark, don't try THAT in your Supercub! [-X
