Funny how NORAD can track a 182 that strays into the no fly zone but has NO friggin clue when a possible rocket is launched off Catalina Island.... Oh , forgive me, they called it a normal contrail from an aircraft. It's just that they cannot provide the flight number, N number or destination of that "flight".

Tim, a friend of mine (he might be a lurker on this site too), recently bought a nice 150 hp clipper. On his 2nd or 3rd date with his new girlfriend, he flew her over to the east coast for her first airplane ride. He gave her the job of looking out for traffic on her side of the plane.

After a little while she says, “Here is one right next to us.” Tim looks over and it is a F16!

He was going close to the Camp David TFR but had his path outside a few miles, just to be safe. Well, it turned out that “O” showed up and that 5 mile radius turned into a 30 mile one.

After confusion on the radio and several F16 laps around the clipper, he had to land and face the music. He filled out one of the NASA forms and got a lawyer. Basically, he got out of it without losing his ticket.

Right there, the Garmin 496 -696’s would pay for them selves.

This shit's why I GLADLY pay the $30 a month for the XM Weather on my Garmin. Can't tell ya the number of times some TFR has popped up in the middle of nowhere out here in the vast desert wastelands. Like I'm gonna call FSS every time I want to hop in and go for a quick ride from dirt to dirt... [-X They are all over the place now.

And with the VIP stuff, most of the presidential TFR's I've seen out here the XM will show the ring about 24 hours in advance. Lots and lots of head's up time.

Yeah, just because you're somewhere like West Yellowstone, Mt., doesn't mean the Prez won't be there. I narrowly missed getting to see Air Force One there last summer (not the 747 but something smaller, point is, Obama was on it). I had other things on my mind that day, leaving Livingston, like the 25+ mph winds, (calm for those parts), and may or may not have checked my route out beforehand. He'd left the day before #-o :oops:

This is what makes me want to move west. I hate traveling north now. It takes the fun out of flying when it gets as complicated as it is. I took the online course (mandatory for all transiting within 60 nm). It was easier to get my intrument rating than to remeber all of the different gates and protocals. Friggin Bullshit!

^^ Perhaps if the issuer of that NOTAM was to read the BCP Newbie Guide, they would improve their communication effectiveness.

I was actually in the air right by the adiz flying a 182 when this happened. Was talking with approach when it was going down. Of course, I had friends and family sending my emails thinking that I could have been the one..

Student pilot operating near the captl with out using flight following???

This is one thing I like about fltplan.com it shows a red ring for the TFRs, reading that just gives me a headache lol
