Morgan County 42U (Utah) Fly-In August 7

Sorry for the short notice but....

The Morgan County Airport (42U) Fly-In is this weekend August 7th. Last year, this was one of my favorite events! Lots of tail-draggers here. Good folks, good food and lots of fun. Here are the particulars:

Fly-In from 0630 to early afternoon. Breakfast (killer!) from 0730 to 0930. Registration for Short-field take-off, Spot landing, and flour-bomb drop ends at 0930. Safety briefing @ 0945. Contests begin @ 10 am

Come on out-

That is the day of my 40th wedding aniversary. I will see if that is where Sharon wants to spend it. [-o< Accually my son, his wife and their three kids live eight miles away. I will just sugest that we visit them and act surprised that this event is going on.

Just wanted to say thanks to the guys that put this fly-in together. Had a great time and the breakfast was excellent.
And as always it was fun to put some faces to names.

Indeed, and we all got to see a Carbon Cub do its thing, winning the short field takeoff event. Some yahoo in a Rans S7-S won the short field landing part of the event :D A really great assortment of taildraggers, including Larry Hall and his 3/4 scale replica of a Storch.

Next week: Sandpoint and Cavanaugh Bay.

I wish we could have made the event! What were the numbers on the winning Short Take off and Short Landing competition? I've always wondered what the altitude in Utah would do to the sea level Valdez STOl numbers.

Blu, saw your plane there and watched your Short-field take-off but I never put the face with the plane. Glad you made it.

Courierguy, nice work on the spot/short landing. I believe I told everyone around me that you would be winning that one...and you didn't dissappoint. Your plane is whisper quiet too.

180- Most of the folks around were saying the Carbon Cub was off in 300ft. They had a tailwind for the contest too. . . sometimes 8-10 knots, and runway 3 is uphill! I was impressed.

Breakfast was superior- worth the trip on its own.

Thanks all,

Finally got the 175 out and met a few of the BCP's there. Blu pretty much walked away with the takeoff part. The Storch was really cool and he did a beautiful job on it and there was three Piper Clippers in one hanger. The Utah Short takeoffs don't look quite like the Valdez ones but like Leemer said it was uphill with a tailwind. Plus hot and 5000 ft. Had a good time and look forward to the next one.

Wish I had come over now. I woke up saw all of the clouds over toward Morgan and decided I was not a good enough pilot to visit a one-way airport like that with clouds, wind and traffic. No taxiway so back taxi on the runway....right? Plus, by the time I got the cowls back on the plane, I would have missed breakfast and did not want to arrive during competitions. Next time for sure.

Ya that storch was pretty cool with that 540 hanging on the front.
Can't say enough about how good the breakfast was. I was also really impressed with the spot landing contest. Everyone got only one try and three people where within a foot of the line.
That's some pretty good flying.
