Mounting camera?Ok to mount actioncam on airplane like this?

I have a chinese actioncam I want to mount on the plane, along with a mount I made out of the nuts and bolts bins at home depot.

Is it ok to mount a camera like this and in this location, or is it a bad idea?

Same actioncam. This is of course what I don't want to happen :)

Oh no I don't think that's a good idea. You must get it installed by an A&P using appropriate hardware and properly record the installation in your log books. You will probably need a field approval or one time STC. Don't forget engineering drawings and aerodynamic testing. Also update your weight and balance. :^o just kidding looks fine... Go for it!

I'll be curious how that works out. I tried something very similar and there was too much vibration. Needed a very short arm I think.

And don't forget. It's going to cost you $1500 at least

+1

Looks like a lot of plastic and joints.

I fitted a GoPro with the 3M-backed standard mount under the wing just beneath the wing tip pointing towards the cabin on a Decathlon and I use the same system on the Skybolt on the strut between the wings (biplane) - great way of reviewing the flight afterwards.

Haven't dropped it yet and I haven't felt anything strange in the controls.

Here's something similar to the OP's rig, but all metal. No experience with it- Amazon sent it to my in-box this morning.

We tossed it on the dash -- the results were as expected. Acceptable mediocre. The plastic mount looked like it would do a 360-spin towards the rear upon seeing first wind so I have to figure out a way to tighten it some more.

I might try that metal one at amazon.

Mounting camera or whatever to outside of aircraft is ??? Legal action. Inside windshield with suction cup is temporary mount and is probly OK. I found a cell phone mount that will hold my camera on windshield or glareshield .
