Music Playlist

I just got done reading Matt Schumacher's winter report on lake George. Of all that caught my attention it was a question of music. I mean I'm sitting here listening to Big Head Todd and all I can think is, Matt is telling an amazing story and he caught 30 minutes of great music on the way back to Wasilla. What was he listening to in that serene moment?
So, Here is my question to the group of like minded people..... What are your favorite playlist/ band to listen to while flying?

GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Re: Music Playlist

Big Head Todd played the Sandpoint Festival (ID) in August, it was great to see them. Hadn't seen them since Boulder late '90s...

Re: Music Playlist

I am not much of a music listener but I have two albums downloaded to my iPad for playing when flying.

By coincidence, one of them is Big Head Todd.

Wonder if he knows that his aviation following is huge!

Re: Music Playlist

I always start my flight play list with Blue Sky by BHTM. Then Boom Boom. Then any other Big Head Todd songs. Sometimes I mix it up with some Tedeschi Trucks, Nathaniel Ratliff, Trampled by Turtles, Joe Bonamassa, Ana Popovic, and a little Tower of Power. End it with more Todd Park Mohr.

I heard Blue Sky by the Monsters was the last song played before launch on the last few space shuttle missions.

Re: Music Playlist

I don't listen to music while flying, but on the drive to the airport it's usually something like Blur, Gorillaz, TV on the Radio, Tool, Band of Horses, or a number of film scores.

Re: Music Playlist

I think it's important to keep posts on topic, as that's what works best for our community, so in light of that, I'll post my setup, then what I was listening to:

My setup is a PM 3000 intercom with stereo headsets. It has a line in jack, and it's smart enough to disconnect the music on radio transmission.

In the line in jack, I have a simple bluetooth to usb adapter. As seen in the pictures, my phone is attached with a suction cup, and I just bluetooth it to the adapter, and play away.

It makes a difference on long cross country flights. When I flew to Platinum, AK this last summer, I was listening to 2000 Leagues under the Seas. It was pretty cool.

So what was I listening to?

Re: Music Playlist

When it comes to flying videos, my favorite track is <MUTE>. :)

I love music, but listening while flying wasn't really an option until I got my first ANR headsets 20 years ago. So, I spent my first 10 years not listening to music, not looking at GPS, not looking at LORAN--either because it didn't exist or I didn't have it. My primary flight instructor drummed into me "If you're not doing something, you're doing something wrong." Bored? Calculate winds aloft on your Garmin, then try it with a whiz wheel. No luck? Check your O2 sat and the CO2 monitor. File a PIREP. Figure out how to drive to that ranch/mine/canyon/lake down below. Pull out the POH and check performance against the book. Look for emergency landing spots. One of these days, it'll come in handy.

Nowadays, I listen to music only on long trips, once I'm "way" up in the teens, over friendly terrain and in areas where there's not much radio chatter. Otherwise, it just adds to workload and can compromise SA. How many airlines allow the flight crew to listen to music en route?

Wow, making me feel old - I've never even heard of a single musician/group listed above. I'm mostly in with CAVU, especially on the situational awareness aspect.

Re: Music Playlist

I mostly listen to The Steel Drivers on the cloudy days and Kimbra on the sunny days while flying airplanes.
Waylon Jennings with a slathering of Johnny Cash while working on them.

Ditto, on both counts.
Old school C&W in the car,
maybe 70s/80s rock or mellow jazz for a change-up.

Re: Music Playlist

I listen to music through my audio panel on cross countries. Keeps the kids entertained too. Pretty much non-mainstream country for me. Tyler Childers, Travis Denning, Eric Durrance’s Tobacco Rd Band, Matt Borden, JB and the Moonshiners, Jeremy Pinnell, the Cadillac Three, and maybe a little Eric Church and Godsmack thrown in there too!

Re: Music Playlist

Pandora Stations:

Video Game Music
Chillstep
M83
Korn (specifically for the ADQ ILS to mins with 40kts on the tail)

This isn't typically what I listen to outside of the cockpit. Just nice background noise to drown out the severe tinnitus. Music also seems to help calm new/nervous passengers.
