Muskwa-Kechika/Alaska Highway BC destinations?

Hey folks - i find myself in NW BC on amphibs, with a few days to spare, and I'm looking for places to explore.

I'm currently in Fort Nelson, just to the east of the Northern Rockies. I'm on my way to Watson Lake, but I don't have to be there until Monday.

Anyone got suggestions of great places to fly into and camp for a day or two?

I know about the seaplane base at Muncho Lake, and I'm told Wokkpash Lake is worth a visit. Any other suggestions?

That far North is a little beyond where I've been flying regularly. I'll say that I've overflown Dall and Denetiah Lakes a few times and they look beautiful. They're on my list of places to go. Tuchodi Lakes would be another. Sheep, goat, moose, and elk are in season up there right now so a lot of these lakes are going to have hunters camped on them.

Those all look like worthy destinations! Denetiah even has a lodge that caters to the "fly your own plane" crowd. Who knew?

I'll see what happens and report...

If you’re going that far westcheck out Aeroplane Lake and several others in that stretch of the trench with the same white sand bottom and Caribbean coral reef look. To the south on the Finlay Reach of Williston Lake there are a few lodges but you might want to check out this one: https://www.finlayriveroutfitters.com/

Pretty sure they have a dock set up to accommodate float planes.

As already mentioned, Tuchodi is quite popular with the Fort Nelson locals, and I’ve heard great things about Redfern, Sikani Chief, and Trimble Lakes as well but haven’t been there myself. The world isn’t 50% water like where you come from, but still lots of nice places to play out that way.

Enjoy!

So it was a lovely Saturday morning at Muncho Lake, and I got some great beta from legendary bush pilot Urs Schildknecht. Plan A was Dall Lake, Plan B was Deneitah Lake. Both are reported to have great beach landing sites and camping. Unfortunately, the weather rolled in locking me out of the mountain valleys, leaving me with Plan C - following the highway to Watson.

Next time!
