I see your photo of the Stinson. Wait 'til you see the video we have of that restored Station Wagon. We were in Galveston, TX, and we shot the aerial footage just at dusk. The golden light on the maroon was incredible.

On another topic, maybe I can get some help here.

Kinda strange, but I'm talking with a man who owns a Maule, an MX-7 160, who is interested in a trade.

His is a 1995 with just over 1000 hours TT. Fixed pitch prop. Swing out windows on both sides. Simple radios, with a localize and transponder.

I can't find any of these for sale on the web sites, so I can't find a rough value for it. Also, does anyone have any general thoughts on that plane/engine combination?

Last question: Is it possible to upgrade the engine (swap it) to the 180hp?

Thanks for the help.

Tom,

Doing an engine swap from the 160 to 180 would probably be way more expensive than just going out and buying a 180 with a constant speed prop and similar hours.

I flew a MX-7-160 a few years ago and it's O.K. if kept light and as long as the density altitudes aren't too high. Although, for serious backcountry work I think I'd be looking for 180 with a constant speed as a minimum. Best guess value of the 1995 MX-7-160 as configured the way you stated - approx. $65-70K.

If I was starting out afresh right now, I'd be lookin' for an M-5-235 or M-6-235.

I'd agree with you Strata except the price. The MX7 160 and 180 with fixed pitch were first offered in 1993. The 160 starts about $55k and the 180 about $62k. Of course there are variations in price re condition, accidents, equipment and hours. The MX7 180 with constant speed prop began in 1984 and roughly start at $63k.

Well, it was just a guess. I was only off about $10K

I figured if I was way off you'd step in and correct me. Really didn't realize the 1995 160's were so inexpensive.

We are in the process of getting the first season of Wings To Adventure on DVD. On the WTA web site, there is a place for requesting to be notified when the DVDs are available.
