My 11 month rebuild is over!

Several people on here know I had a little weather event that incapacitated my cub. A big swirling gust of wind blew me off course and over a cottonwood log that ended in a cartwheel. I walked away without a scratch, but the cub was a little worse for the wear. I was lucky I was at a place in life that I could dedicate a large amount of time to it and do the rebuild almost entirely by my self. Now, 11 months in to it, and 1200+ hours of labor and she is in the break in phase. It has been an incredibly long journey filled with lots of highs, but many lows, and delays... Typical cub building from what I am hearing. She is now 93 lbs lighter, has a little more horsepower from a newly rebuilt 0-360, is a lot more functional for Alaska, and has a whole lot of personal touches. Hopefully she is going to be with me for a long time!

This was the before

And its ride back to civilization...

And this is the after!

Looks great! Did you square the wing tips? If not, why not?

No I did not. Originally I was going to just try and get her back in the air quickly and repair just what was necessary. Since one wing was unharmed and recovered 4 years prior I was not going to do anything except repaint it. After finishing the damaged wing and uncovering lots of previous issues I decided to tear the good wing down as well. There are several things I wish I would have planned on doing from the beginning had I known that I was going to completely rebuild the plane, and that is likely one of them. The stock wing is pretty good though, so I am not too upset with the outcome!

Makes sense for sure. Hope you didn't take the question as a knock to your project. It looks great for sure.

Nice, Cory. Looks awesome. Probably feels good to have a brand new airplane.

Beauty Supercub and way to go getting fixing her up yourself, that's gotta be very satisfying.

Looks fabulous. Do you have a Stone Glacier connection? Regardless, the cowl art looks great.

Congrats - Looks great
Funny how project creep seems to always infect an airplane "repair" :D

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

This one has had it's fair share, and still is happening. My prop should have been here a long time ago. Hopefully it will show up today. The plates and bolts though are on backorder.... ughhhhhh

Pretty slick! I envy people who have the temperament to take on such long projects...it's not a gift everyone has.

Great job! It's come out looking better than ever, so the incident becomes a good thing overall - now that it's a distant memory!

I find myself in very similar circumstances at the moment. Just finished our new extended wing tips :D

This is one of the latest panel shots I have. I will take another one if I fly it tomorrow.
