My 180J Winter Project

I thought I'd share my winter project. I bought a 180J, 2376 TT w/factory float kit in April last year. The paint was 39 years old with alot of sun damage. Plane spent all its's life in Madras, OR, great dry weather but sat out alot in the hot sun in the summer.

The interior was completly original (as well as the airframe) only STC was auto fuel. I'm adding New windscreen,BAS shoulder harness, BAS handles, Kenmore GW increase, Garmin 400W,new paint, new interior including headliner (found 8 dead mice up there), SCS vinyl floor & mats.

My wife knows about most this stuff :) Hopefully she'll just notice how nice it looks..

Decided to change the 39 year old fuel cell's since the wings were off.

It's good to have long arms to reach all the snaps & buttons!

Re: My 180J Winter Project

My painter was able to finish up some other projects and spent the last week on my 180. Need to wait about a week for the clear coat cures, and then the fun begins!

Re: My 180J Winter Project

Thanks MM. Was able to spend some time at the hangar this evening. It's starting to look like a 180!

Re: My 180J Winter Project

Had a good week. Reinstalled the flap handle, replaced wheel bearings & races, installed BAS shoulder harness brackets and bolted the wings on!

Re: My 180J Winter Project

I was able hang and rig the flaps, hang the ailerons, install the tail cone and rear position light. The plan for next week is rig the ailerons, install wing tips, hang the prop and install GPS antenna. The parts bench is starting to look bare!
