Re: My ACA Scout in Flying Magazine!!!

Looks like someone goofed up the math- 2150# gross & 1400 empty = 750 useful, not 940 as listed.

Curious how restricted category works and when you can apply it. Is it part of a supplement like the amphibs, or in the original ACA certification? 2150 to 2600 is quite a jump,

2600# GW is on the TCDS for ag chemicals. #2600 is no big deal for a Scout, under certain conditions. Flys great heavy, FAA agrees.

So does this mean that you can load up your Scout to #2600 lbs for a camping mission and just say you are flying in the restricted category?

There is not enough room to load 1400 lbs of camping equipment/fuel into a Scout! I maybe could get a ferry permit if that was the case. Very good question. If you see me with a "Restricted" placard, the answer will be yes! Definitely an interesting topic.

I don't think so. It should read 740 useful as going with restricted gross is showing what probably only 1% of owners will/can use.

I think to operate within the parameters of the restricted category, you must get a restricted airworthness certificate, for ag spraying or whatever. Then as I understand it, you can't just hop in and fly off for a weekend of camping, you are restricted to your new category. Of course, if your emergency kit included a sleeping bag tent etc & the spray hopper was full of beer......by George, I think it just might work!
