My airplane has been immortalized !!!!!!!!!!! Its true, N8160L made it into a pocket history book for the 172 written by Dr. Ron Smith and published in England. Should be available at Amazon.com, or will be shortly.
The author was looking for photos of a Franklin powered 172, I sent him pictures of 8160L a, 220Hp.172 and a description, It’s interesting that they picked the photo of 60L at Chamberlain U79. I found it odd that they did not use a pic of the engine compartment, (very clean) even the FAA guys find it stunning, but all in all the article makes a nice conversation point. They did make one typo, it’s a 172H (H as in Heavy) model, not a 172L model, other than that they gave it a page, not bad for a revamped ramp mummy.
It makes Daddy proud.

Congrats on having your aircraft featured among a fleet that is larger than any other single type. The 172 is arguably as prolific as the J-3 Cub, just in a slightly different way. It's rare to have someone shower you with interest at fly-ins because we've all flown one at some point and take them for granted. Amazing bird that does a little of everything *pretty* well.

I learned and trained in 172s The Franklin 6A-350 changes the caricature of the airplane, I suppose its like having a Super Cub instead of a Cub. When a stock 172 is reading air speed, I’m off the ground.@ 12500 I’m still getting 400fpm. I have had friends fly it and comment on how different it feels, even in the pattern, very solid and responsive in all quadrants, I can’t explain it. All that have flow it love it.
It sounds different than any other 172 and for that matter other aircraft, other pilots in the valley can tell when I’m coming or going and I have had personal at airports tell me the same thing, I have even had other pilots call on the radio and ask what it had in it. It safe and fun, good X country and fun to camp out of.

172H, I know how you feel.

As a child I dreamt about flying being a pilot and camping out of an airplane, maybe it’s the hole Sky King thing, but I’ll be damned if it didn’t come true.
It has truly changed my life, and added yet another demotion to my wife and my relationship. She doesn’t freak out, and seems to scenes danger at the same time as I do and we seem to think the same, pilot and navigator.
I don’t know if you believe that inanimate objects have a sole or an ora but 60L seems to.
I get the feeling that it was meant to be part of the family and is happy in that role.

Did that 172 come stock with 150 or 160 hp? WOW a bump up to 220 hp. Now that is an increase.

In 1967 the 172H came with an O300 145Hp FP ,1968 was the break year for the LYC 0320 150Hp.Fp.
