Re: My flying journey

Patience Required Before I Can Start My Trip

The closer we got to the completion of the upgrade of my 170B, the more work was left to do. The famous "90% done, 90% remaining" - joke proved to be true once again

Patience was required.

In the end, it all paid off. Staying focused, paying close attention to every detail and patiently ticking off one task after another got us to our goal.

Engine start at 5:30 a.m., take-off into the pink morning sky. I pointed the nose of Whiskyblue to the west and set off on my great adventure.

And what an adventure it turned out to be!!

Re: My flying journey

Hiking up to a beautiful spot close to where I live now always triggers memories of the backcountry adventure with my 170B last year.
Go there to watch the videos I shot during that trip:

Re: My flying journey

I have already shared the videos of my adventures with Whiskyblue last year in another thread, but since they are part of my flying journey, I will post some of them here as well.

The beginning of my trip - nice first leg to Lockhaven, and then stopped in my tracks by thunderstorms.

At the end of the second leg of my first day out.
Remnants of earlier storms that were still lingering convinced me to call it a day.

Great memories: adventures with Whiskyblue, my Cessna 170B.
First goal achieved – I made it to Montana!
There are no mountains where I landed, but there is a huge hangar with room to spare for Whiskyblue and my tent, and a bar within walking distance with cold beer, huge hamburgers, and the local high school football stars for company.

Idaho, Idaho… you have to go to Idaho!
That recommendation came up wherever I asked for places I should visit on my adventure trip across the country.
Moose Creek was my first landing there.

The advice of Idaho flying legend Ray Arnold made me come here: Garden Valley.

When I first became interested in backcountry flying and started watching YouTube videos, I was mesmerized by a strip deep down in a canyon in Utah's Red Rock Country: Mexican Mountain.
Landing down there was the absolute highlight of my adventure.

Great memories: adventures with Whiskyblue, my Cessna 170B.

Leaving the mountains, visiting an old (soaring) playground and from there heading east-south-east.

On my way east from the Rocky Mountains, I ended up in the Ozarks.
The topography was different, of course, as were the colors, but the impressions and emotions that hit me in some places were just as intense.

The saga of Whiskyblue and me.
It started 7 years ago and it might end soon.

Re: My flying journey

In my last video I mentioned an Airworthiness Directive to be complied with after a prop strike.
I made a quip about it, was it a bit hyperbolic?

Re: My flying journey

Thanks for sharing all this content Wolf!

On a side note... I continue to be flummoxed at the crickets on this thread... moreover, on BCP in general.

Regardless if this content resonates with you or not, this sort of stuff is what (in years past) made BCP so great. Trip reports, personal anecdotes, individual colour... Poor Wolf here has been working really hard to share his journey and there is just silence. I'm amazed he didn't quit long ago.

If we as a community want more people to contribute, we should probably all speak up more with some encouragement... afterall, I still find this place a more pleasant place than Fu*kBook.

Re: My flying journey

Thanks Greg.

Yeah, it's really hard to keep the momentum going, sometimes even discouraging when it seems like no one is paying attention.
It's been about 2 1/2 months since I started this thread, and only 3 people have commented.

And yes, there have been moments when I've asked myself: Should I keep going?

Re: My flying journey

I'm thinking lots of fellow members of this site have been following, but like myself, enjoy your videos and posts, but don't have much to say. Also, summer flying season limits the time lots of us have for responding. I normally browse the site early in the morning and in the late evening if I have time. Winter time, I have lots more time and that's when guys seem to reply more frequently.

I have enjoyed the videos! I complemented them in another string theory, particle physics, fusion energy thread just before Oshkosh.

I tired commenting page 1, kinda seemed more like a monologue so I didn’t comment again (till now)
