Re: My GPS wont work

It's only a 450 nautical mile radius- what's the problem?

Actually, I think it's pretty ludicrous that we're all being pushed to greater dependency on the vulnerable GPS system, and they seem to dick around with it every chance they get. We just finished a similar "test" down in the SE US. And now the FCC is allowing a cell system in an adjacent band that seems custom designed to saturate the sensitive front ends of our GPS receivers.

BRING BACK LORAN! :)

Re: My GPS wont work

Interesting and on a digression I had a flight instructor that thought I was crazy for flying with the VORs and landmarks rather than the G1000. I hate that thing for VFR flight.

Ha Ha...

Someday over beers and a campfire I think I can recall a few "hit the coast" days, and then trying to figure out which way to turn. Never got lost :^o But there were times I may have had a slight problem telling ya where exactly I was.

Re: My GPS wont work

A guy landed a 172 on straight floats in the dirt here at Austin, NV, got out and asked my son Joe "Where the hell am I ??" Joe said "Austin." He replied very seriously "Texas??"

Now that's lost... I recognize it well, cause I been there too.

Re: My GPS wont work

Well looks like the GPS might not work so well for all of us! Am I just imagining it or is technology going backwards?

Re: My GPS wont work

Climbing out of Indian Creek one evening about 15 years ago, the wife and I heard this transmission from an obviously stuck mic.

Husband: HOW IN THE F#@K DO YOU EXPECT ME TO KNOW WHERE IN THE HELL WE ARE!
Husband: AS SOON AS I PULL THIS SEAT CUSHION OUT OF MY ASS, I’LL FIGURE IT OUT – OK!!!
Wife: EAT SHIT YOU IDIOT!!!

Then the mic went unstuck - the wife and I laughed for a long time. It struck too close to home! =D>

That was one of the beauties of working on Kodiak. On a relatively small island, hit the coast, and turn either way, and sooner or later you'll arrive home. :D

Yea, I don't know why I was worried, It is incomprehensible that our current leaders would make any sort of bad decisions. :^o

Re: My GPS wont work

Twice last week like clock work we got the "GPS Primary Lost" message when we hit the NV border. Went away as soon as we crossed into CA or UT on our way across the country. Pretty amazing how accurately they can blot out a certain area.
