Re: My new baby

Sweet plane Mongo!

Are those bushwheels different? They look more like donuts/different sidewall?

Awesome, I bet she rips... Congratulations. =D> When ya get the Bushwheels, maybe ya ought to think about keeping the 26's for those times you are going to be on a lot of pavement or asphalt.

Just standard 31s, no air though.
To all those who may purchase some bushweels don't inflate them until they are mounted or it will cost you $1700

She does rip but she needs a driver like you to maximize it, I hope to get 749ered this fall, fingers crossed.
I stay away from payment as much as possible, that stuff is dangerous......

Re: My new baby

Looks great! what's it weigh? Have you got enough time in a non Riblett 180/hp cub to offer a comparison? Did you check out the AOI before you bought it? I would be curious to know if that affects the Riblett as much as the stock wing.

Take care, Rob

I only have a few hours in a stock wing Supercub (150hp) and I would say the riblett is slower in cruise and stall and maybe a bit more gentle in stall. It is a pretty thick airfoil.
She is heavy 1200lbs for now, the wings weigh 30lbs more than a 13 rib. The ailerons are a really light almost the same in air as on ground. Don't know the AOI.
All in all I like them, I think with VGs the stall speed with say 1600rpm would be crazy slow....

I've had a lot of fun at paved strips NOT landing on the pavement/asphalt. I got talked to once, by the airport manager, (Sandpoint, Id.) and told him I didn't know landing on the grass between the taxiway and runway was "forbidden", and wouldn't do it again (and didn't). No problems the rest of the times. Only at the towered airports do they, at least around here, have a problem, so I just don't go there. My tires (26" Airstreaks) still look like new! I'd rather save the tires and every now and then get talked to.

About that, a few years ago a cub from 70 miles east was at a nearby airport for some work. (No tower.) It was in the shop hangar overnight. The next day the wind was horrific but right straight at the hangar door. Fearing the loss of the plane while taxiing out crosswind to get to the best runway, the pilot was encouraged by the FBO to do it the safest way possible, that is open the door taxi straight out the door into the wind and takeoff in the vacant ramp area ahead. (No other traffic was there.) When the city airport board found this out they called the FBO to task on the matter, to which he replied, this whole area is an airport and was long before there was pavement with numbers put in here. To my knowledge it all still is an airport and safety was the consideration for this takeoff in the first place. The matter was dropped. Seems like with no tower you should be able to use the grass.

Your plane is a hottie.
