my new plane

How odd life goes,
As I've posted, I am the newest member of a flying club with a cessna-120.
After years of looking to no avail for a plane in my budget, I quit looking and choose to join the c-120 club. Then, out of the blue, a great deal on a pristine 1965 c-172 with a 180hp constant speed prop and full IFR panel with a Garmin 396 panel mount GPS came up and I bought a share of it. I have one other partner, hanger included. I will post pictures later.

New Plane

Hey, I owned and flew a 1965 172 for about 6 years before moving up to more horse power - My wifes idea, no really it was  .

I had the O-300D that ran smooth as anything I've ever flown. Plane did well when the kids were small, but as the family grew so did the weight.

I had close to 300 hours in her when I bought the "54" 180. Never cost much to operate, insurance was cheap, fuel burn around 8 gph.

Great 2 place plane, make sure you have a long runway and a lot of room with gross weight and a hot day. F4 enjoy it!

Robert "Bub" Wright, aka Skylane, passed away in November of 2011. He was a beloved community member and will be missed.

I'd love to see some photies and more info on your plane.

Welcome!!

Altitude is Time…. Airspeed is Life!

Congrats on your plane! There are quite a few C-171/180hp around here; they do much better with the density altitude. Fly her out west when you get the chance.

F4,

I live about 45 miles west of STL. Keep my Maule at MO6.....retired from AmericanAirlines.

Stop by MO6 sometime. Hanger has a red roof....at the north end of the field.

Living the Dream

Hey F4, congrats on your new/old plane. I own a 1970 172K and really enjoy it. Doesn't do anything one thing great, but does a whole lot of things pretty good.

The 180hp is a great mod for those. I'll be looking at that after I wear this 0-320 out. There is a air taxi in Bellingham WA that uses 172/180hp and they routinely cram in four adults with bags and go in and out of some dirt strips on the San Juan islands. Of course, all at sea level.

I'm enjoying the easy fuel burn I get with the 150hp but with the great performance increase you get from only 30 more ponies in the 172, its something I would like to have. .......enjoy.
