Mysterious '65 U206 in Meridian Idaho

Hey all, anybody know the story on this airplane? I live literally 1000 ft from it, but never knew it until last week (I think the owner trimmed some trees along the road or something). Anyway, it's right in the middle of town now, surrounded by subdivisions, closest airport is miles away. According to Google Earth historical imagery, it looks like it hasn't moved since at least 1992. It's kind of strange to see an airplane here, but not too many years ago this was all farmland -- I might live where his strip used to be. Sorry man.

On google maps, to the west looks like what could've been a strip that would've ran straight east to where that Cessna is.

There was a mystery 210 that sat in Dillon for years. I guess the ol boy that owned it threw a rod and had to ut it down on the highway. The evidence was in the back seat with the fence stretchers, penecillin bottles, ropes and calf pullers. Seems it was running on delo 400, penzoil, and bar oil.

I thought the same thing initially, but it's actually some streets that have been graded for that subdivision on the corner, but not yet paved. Notice how they line up with existing streets. I didn't see any obvious signs of a strip as far back as 1992, so who knows. Maybe he landed on the road, doesn't look like the big power lines were there back then.

As a side note, the historical imagery available on Google Earth is awesome. The availability varies by area, but it's fascinating to see how places change over time. Now I sort of feel guilty though for living where I do, it looks like it used to be such a nice, peaceful place, way out in the country. :)

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Re: Mysterious '65 U206 in Meridian Idaho

Went and dropped in on Lloyd this evening to get the scoop on his airplane. Nice guy, talked for a couple hours, mostly about skydiving. He's 82, has 1000 jumps in the last 30 years, and is still going strong, although he's pretty well deaf (I let him do most of the talking :) ). Anyway, he flew jumpers in the 206 for years down in CA and in ID, but at some point the right wing was damaged, he didn't say how. He towed the airplane to his place, so there's never been a strip around here. He's got plans to get it flying again, looks like a big undertaking to me. It's been sitting there since the 80s, needs an engine, avionics, interior, right wing repaired, etc. So there's the story. Not quite as glamorous as I'd imagined, but it was worth it to hear some of his skydiving stories! Skydivers sound like a, um, lively, bunch
