Name that plane

Saw this odd looking beast up at 18V and was wondering if it's just a "scrapyard build" or if it has an actual kit associated with it. Looks to be a good roomy hauler with some type of high HP auto engine tucked behind the fiberglass nose (had radiator).

Any guesses/info?

Re: Name that plane

Are there any Murphy pilots on here, and if so how do you like it?? At one time, I admired a Murphy Moose as a possible kit to build. At this point in my life however, I have come to realize it's "turn key" for me from now on out.

Re: Name that plane

I still own an O-320 powered Rebel. Sweet little plane, good useful load and nice short/rough performance.

Its for sale if anyone's interested. First $35,000 takes it.

My skywagon has my heart now.

Yep, Murphy Moose with a Chevy V-8. The owner really does NOT want to sell but since he was shipped to Australia he has found out it is very expensive to ship it there and feels someone should enjoy it. I bad it is one bad ass sounding plane!!

I am building a Murphy Rebel and have riden in one with an O-320. All I can say is it is one sweet ride!!!!! Felt more like a Ferarri of the sky compared to what I normally fly. Can't wait til I have time to finish mine.

Re: Name that plane

Well, I'm doing a little flight instructing up at 18V over the next couple weeks. Maybe I can catch the owner one day and give him some gas $$$ for a test flight. Sounds like quite the machine! (literally)

Platte Valley has to be one of the friendliest airports in the area. Lots of good people on the field.

I am suprised it has a regular carb? Is that what stol has on his 801? I have a buddy working on a starduster that he has a sb chevy for, and it has a setup from airflow performance. It is pretty trick, but real busy compared to an aircraft engine.

I've got a few hundred hours in a 150 hp rebel on amphibs, wheels, and skiis.
It is a very fun aircraft, however it is not great in a strong crosswind because of the full length flaperons. On skiis, or wheels it is probably the best performing plane I have flown, with take offs long before the throttle is all the way in, and climb rates just over 2000 fpm. Amphib t/o's with full fuel and two on board are about 10-12 seconds, then an honest 1000 fpm climb at 80 mph. Cruise on floats, about 95 mph, wheels 110 mph. (using an 82-42 mccauley)
They can be bought for about half of what it would cost to build.
