Narco 810 manual wanted

I'm looking for a Narco 810 Com owners / installation manual. Does anyone have one that they can photocopy or scan for me? I'd like to have one just because, but I do have a radio issue. If I turn the avionics master or the radio itself off for a few seconds, it'll come back on with the frequencies I had set. But if it's off for longer than that, it'll come back on with the default frequencies: 121.50 on the active and 122.90 on standby. I seem to recall someone saying that there was an internal battery which keeps the freq's in memory. Resetting the freq's every time isn't that big of a deal, but it is a PITA so if I can correct this I'd sure like to.

you asked, google found. you can download the manual from this site.

http://myebookslibrary.com/download/nar ... l-pdf-.pdf

you have to "free register" first, don't be surprised of they spam you afterwards.

Nope. After registering, they ask for a credit card "but you will not be billed". Yeah, right.
I'll pas.
Back to the original question-- does anyone have a Narco 810 manual they can scan or photocopy for me?

Re: Narco 810 manual wanted

here's another try, this isn't a full installation manual, it's a 3 page PDF, but it shows all the wiring connections.

http://www.aeroelectric.com/Installatio ... Com810.pdf

the "keep alive" wire is on pin #8, if it is grounded the radio turns on in 121.5/122.9, if you connect it to battery the radio will keep it's last freqs. when you turn it back on. connect it to the battery with the smallest fuse you can find, or run it off the same fuse as your electric clock if you have one.

Re: Narco 810 manual wanted

Thanks. In googling Narco 810, I did find some discussion about that "stay alive" feature. Seems weird to have to bypass the master switch and have full time power to it. I've had both King & Icom digital radios, they keep the frequencies "alive" without constant power- anyone know how? I'd guess some sort of small internal battery, which makes more sense to me.

Re: Narco 810 manual wanted

I know you're not looking for this kind of input but as a former owner of an 810 I just got to say it. Take a ball peen hammer, the larger the better. Place the Narco on a firm concrete or steel surface; the harder the better. Whack it good now. Recycle the bits.

Buy a used King or Icom.

Re: Narco 810 manual wanted

Radios that keep the same freqs. when the power is tuned off can use an EAPROM chip or a small battery. The problem with batteries is eventually the battery needs to be replaced. You can buy the battery at a camera shop, or radio shack, sometimes even at wall mart, but the FAA in their infinite wisdom has determined that it must be replaced at a certified repair station, because only they know how to do it correctly. When you go to a radio shop, the technician does not work cheap (I should know), also the expense of a shop is astronomical (the service monitor in my truck cost more than my house), so the end result is the minimum service charge to replace a battery in a radio or GPS is enough to make you go EEEEK! and spend 2 years telling everyone the shop ripped you off over a $5.00 battery. They really didn't, they're just trying to stay in business themselves. Running a small wire around the master switch is actually a very reasonable option, and like the clock it draws almost no current.

I had a Narco AT50 or 50A txp in my 170, people badmouth those but mine worked great for the 11 or 12 years I owned the airplane. It had a King KX155 which I liked. I installed an Icom A200 in my C150TD and liked it too.

Along with the 810 com, my 180 has a matching Narco AT150 txp, both installed back in 1992. Both are still looking relatively new, and except for the radio being a bit scratchy (probably due more to the installation than the radio), both work just fine. I don't particularly care for having to reset the com freq's every time, but as long as it keeps working I'll keep it. If & when it needs replacing, I'll probably go with an Icom A210, but for now I think I have better uses for the $1300 or so that they cost.

Mine burned up the final amplifier transistors every single flight but after repair, soup to nuts inspection and testing of the antenna and transmission line the radio worked great on the ramp. It worked a few trips around the patch with the avionics shop monitoring transmissions. Etc. Then after an hour, maybe two, it burned up the finals again. The shop wouldn't warrantee the work after the second set. I really do think that in the end it had to be something about the install but they couldn't find it and neither could I. I had the AT50 also and it worked peachy.

Don't know if you already saw or found this Hotrod, but here's another possible copy of the manual:

Hope that helps.
