Need a Husky Pilot to fly from Baja to Minnesota

i am looking for an experienced Husky pilot that would come to Loreoto (LTO), Baja California, Mexico and fly my 2012 Husky A-1C 180 HP from Loreto to Wipaire in the Minneapolis area. I will pay all expenses for commercial airfare to LTO and from Minneapolis, fuel costs and $1000.00 for your Misc expenses. Plane must be out of Mexico by April 23rd and at Wipaire by May 7th. it is a great flight up the east coast of Baja to clear customs in Yuma then on to Minnesota. Call Kent at 406-322-3355 or respond to this thread.

I saw your husky down there when I stopped at LTO for fuel.
No husky experience but if I had the time I would do it.
Good luck.

It sounds interesting. I have about 500 hours in my own A1-B. And, I also have a house in Loreto and some Mexico flying experience. But my schedule is already full for that time period. Wish I'd known about this earlier.

Re: Need a Husky Pilot to fly from Baja to Minnesota

If you don't mind me drifting this off topic a little, how is Loreoto now a days? I have a few friends who have places there and were going down there a lot in 2005-2007, but I haven't talked to any of them in a while. In 2009 one mentioned they wouldn't be returning due to some trouble they had.

For a long time, Mexico was my retirement plan, it's time to revisit that idea.

I wouldn't write off the entire country even if your research shows that Loreto has gotten worse. That's like not living in Austin because Detroit has had a rough few decades. Or not moving to Minnesota because of the theater shooting in Colorado. The vast majority of the places you might want to retire are very safe to retire to and the cost of living is still fantastic.

But, yeah, do your homework!

Re: Need a Husky Pilot to fly from Baja to Minnesota

I wouldn't write the country off if one place was bad. I am well traveled, and fully understand how the world works. From everything I have read, Loreto sounds great as far as safety. I have heard it has become a bit more touristy and that more american money is buying stuff there, probably driving costs up. Exploring Baja is on my list of possibilities for next winter, Loreta will be one of my stops. Not sure if I will fly, or drive. It depends on what aircraft I end up buying this summer, and what our plans are. If I drive, I would be tempted to take my big SUV and trailer, but would feel better about traveling in my Jeep Wrangler, or even just going on my bike (if the wife and dogs decided to stay home)

Gotcha. Bad assumption on my part. Most of the time notes like yours are rooted in safety fears.

I live in one of the more expensive parts of Mexico, but I'm seeing the opposite in terms of Americans and their dollars. Tourism and spending are down quite a bit from 2008 due to the continued weak US economy and the beating of the drums on certain media outlets about how dangerous Mexico is. That, however, seems to be compensated for by the increasing numbers of middle class mexicans driving prices up with their own spending. But I'm in central mexico, so who knows if any of these observations are applicable in baja.

You are making a fine decision to go http://www.wipaire.com/ ! I was very thankful to have purchased skis, floats, avionics and training from them.

If you scroll to the 4th banner photograph on http://www.wipaire.com/ home page you can see my Scout.

I love you Wip and all of the team that helped me fly! :D

8GCBC,

What is your legal useful load? My dad was considering putting amphibs on his Scout but the legal useful load he discovered was very low.

PS, that is one sweet looking Scout you have there!

Re: Need a Husky Pilot to fly from Baja to Minnesota

Interesting discussion on Loreto and Mexico in general. things here in Loreto could not be better. things are coming along fine with some improvements in the economy. Slim buying Loreto Bay project was a big plus. the town is as safe as ever - southern Baja just does not have the problems faced by cities in the US and some mainland Mexico areas. we dont lock the house and leave the keys in the vehicles. plane is without question safe at the airport (LTO) as they have good security and we have a small group of Army guys there to check on people and planes coming and going.
So to sum things up - great place to be with lots of great activities and the flying is VFR 364 days a year! Kent (baja Montanan)

8GCBC, I am aware of the specs from Wipline. I was asking about your airplane.
