The other thing that our Aeronautics Commission sicked me onto was an "avigation easement" which controls people building in the approach and departure ends of your runway... definately something to look into if you're going to do it "right".

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

Steve,

Where in Jenks are you putting the strip?

I live in Lawton and rent 172's out of Duncan and Lawton but am looking for something more reasonable - like without the training wheel.

If we can't fly in the mountains of Montana or Idaho, we can still do BBQ down at 6F1 (Talihina) some weekend.

If you don't have access to a landplane, or don't want to mess with it, get a piece of chain link fencing, tie it to a bar at the front, and drag it up and down the strip till its' level. It'll take a while, but the nice thing about a chain link drag is that it's easily moved around, and you can pull it with a fourwheeler, snowmachine, etc.

Once level, plant grass. That'll dry it up, and probably the only way it'll dry up.

Should be plenty long for the 170, if you keep the loads reasonable. Once you get grass growing in there, it'll dry up and get solid enough that big tires shouldn't be needed.

Don,
My strip will be 2.3 mi Southeast of Riverside (RVS) . They are really dragging their feet, but unfortunately for me and them, I fell off my roof and crushed my left heel. 9 screws and steel plates later, Doc says to stay off it for 3 months, (2 left), so unfortunately for RVS, I have the time to keep pushing them forward, gently.

Are there any strips down in the Kiamichi? I have a J-3 and when we purchased it in Shreveport we flew over the Kiamich. Looked like the only place to land was on the banks of Broken Bow because it was so low.

That would be a pretty flight in the fall.

Steve,

I haven't been in that part of the state a lot, but I'll bet you're right about the fall.

We'll have to at least fly over it and watch the colors - maybe as a two ship?

Sorry 'bout the leg, hope it heals well.

Hey Buzz, how is the strip coming in the Delta. Mine will be done arround Thankgiving. My tennant is whining about me moving a fence and dedicating some accreage for the strip.

He is year to year so by Thanksgiving he acceps what I want to do or he moves his cows.

So how come there is one bush left in the middle of the strip. Also, at the south end west side that leaning big tree might want to go.
The barge is SW of your island about 100ft long, but it has a 3ft high barricade around the deck.

That was a M7 Maule. There is quite a crosswind when you get above the tree line. It is going to be too marginal in a stock 145hp C170 unless you can take out that large bush at the south end and you cannot clear the wires at the north end. You can land but might go out on a boat. I would go to a soft surface open field and pace out 1400ft then string a strip of surveyors tape 15ft above the ground and seif you can consistently clear it if I were you. Different story with Lyc180 or Franklin 220.

Yep, looks like you're working on the strip. That hole in the middle seems "interesting"!!
At about the 20% point from the south is a tree on the left that could cause some consternation also, especially in today's wind which was a 90degree crosswind at 17knots.
How was the wind below the treeline shelter where you were ?
Keep up the good work.

I have 1650 strip at an elevation of 3000 ft. It is long enough for most anything. Maybe not for a V1 failure. I have about 30 feet clearance from centerline at one end. How wide are your wings?

It sounds like you have plenty of clearance and length. How about rock and gravel for the winter? Mine is grass.

airstrip

if you want my two cents i am assuming your at sea level a light 170 shouldn't be a problem, i take mine out of 1700ft at 1800asl with 4 people in it (2 guys 2girls no fat chicks) be careful on hot days.
if you put a 80/42 seaplane prop on it it is supposed to make a huge difference in takeoff and not cost much speed. i am not shure if the stc covers that prop on wheels but kenmore air harbour should be able to tell you. 8.50/6 tires make a huge diference even from 8.00s and aren't big enough to attract attention from the feds.

Do the 8.50s shorten your take off run? Significantly, how much?

How far are power lines and sailboat etc from touchdown point at north end. Is it rougher than Bernard in Idaho. That may be the bouncyest strip I have been in to.

Depends on the vehicle. If it is a dodge pickup without to much jarring then it is ok for a 182 with 600x6 up front. A chevy pickup has a smoother ride.
