Need to get Drifterdriver a ride to HSF!

Well as many of you know Tim is making the trek from Australia to the U.S. for the HSF. I was planning on giving him a ride out there in my 170 on Thursday. Unfortunatley during my annual inspection we found some problems and it looks like I'm going to be down for a while and won't be able to make the fly-in unless I drive. Is there anyone in the local area that can give Tim a ride out there? He only needs a one way ride since he is leaving from Reno afterwards.

I was his plan B but my plane is missing a cylinder right now. If I have to drive him up I will. But I think it would be cool for him to fly in.

If either of you have a nosewheel endorsement maybe rent a plane and the three of you fly up?

I've thought about that...... But it's expensive and not to mention no flight school around here would let me take 1 of their airplanes and land it on a dry lakebed. Plus I need that money to get my 170 up and running again! We might just have to road trip it!

He's supposed to be catching a train from LA to Fairfield where I would pick him up and fly him out of my home airport O88 (Rio Vista).

Well the cost part I certainly understand, though divided by two or three it seems ballpark with driving if the renters don't have a 24 hour minimum.

As to landing on a dry lake bed...I guess you could tell them where you were going, but I'm not sure I see any valid reason to. The hardcore bitchslapping that all students and most renters give to those planes on nasty nasty assfault [sic] is a quantum leap in levels of abuse above a decent pilot landing on a lithium flat.

I suppose in all honesty you could tell them that you're going to a private ranch in Nevada with a 150' x 10,000' airstrip. If they assume its the Hilton Ranch then so be it.

Besides, three people showing up in a stock 172 would probably make you cult icons.

Or not...
