Nevada WX nails another C172

Not a good week for C172's in Nevada.

Shit weather, high winds, and 3 to 4 adults stuffed in the airplanes at this elevation.

Re: Nevada WX nails another C172

I read about that one and it looks like weather did it in. I've been trying to get several hours in the 185 before I tear it down for the annual this month. Here in the mountains of central Colorado the wind has been terrible for weeks and before that it was either wind or snow. Were seeing wind at 25 kt. gusting 45 + everyday. I've been trying to do a controlled burn of Pine Beatle killed slash for weeks and have only burned twice and the month long burn permit runs out in 8 days. Plus were 250% of normal on snowpack and the Colorado River looks like the Mississippi at Kremmling, Co, my home field. Went snowmobiling last Sunday in the Flattops and found 12 - 15 feet of snow at higher elevations. Lake Powell should like the runoff. What a never ending winter!

Re: Nevada WX nails another C172

So there I was in a 172, landing at Bryce Canyon this past weekend in what the AWOS reported as a 22G30 knot direct crosswind. Might be a new record for me. I like tailwheels but this is one flight where I was glad I had a nose wheel  I've flown into Bryce a couple times before but the local line guy reminded me that there are only two conditions when the wind is aligned with the runway: slight breeze or more than 35 knots [-X Oh well..

I was told that had I flown Saturday I might have found myself flying backwards [-o<

Later I took off with fuel fuel and a passenger.. About 40 lbs below gross. Sometimes an Alaskan has to be reminded what flying in DA is like. Climb rate of about 100fpm until I found an updraft.

Sure glad I learned to fly in those parts =D>

Not sure, but I think two different accidents are being discussed here. The first was outside of Reno. The last post was about the one at Wendover. I think that they happened on the same weekend...or at least within a few days of each other.
