Re: New Book on Idaho Strips Recently Published

All of my family went in different directions than the hint I gave them so I did not end up with a copy for Christmas so I ordered 1 today. Amazon is out but you can contact the author directly and he will send you a copy. He seems to be a real nice guy and even called me on the telephone to ask how I wanted it inscribed. =D>

Re: New Book on Idaho Strips Recently Published

I got the book for Christmas, and it has been fascinating. For example, did you know:
* They used to fly big Twin Otters 300's in and out of Lower Loon?
* Ford Tri Motors landed at Mile Hi?
* There was scheduled airline service to Indian Creek?
* A Travelair 6000 was floated down the Middle Fork to Indian Creek?
* President Jimmy Carter visited Thomas Creek?
* Vice President George Bush visited Thomas Creek?
* Bobby Kennedy visited Thomas Creek?
* They used twin Otters at Solder Bar to support fire crews?
* Some of the airfields were made with bulldozers that were driven up the creeks during the winter when they were frozen solid?
* Other airfields were made with a horse team and a Fresno box?

A great book.

I agree, tons of cool stuff to read about... the two Ford Tri Motors at Mile Hi would have been a sight to see!

Can anyone guess where this is?

I think we are talking the same place. They are buried along the North Fork of Moose Creek near what used to be the upper airstrip of the Moose Creek Ranches. Page 396 in the book.

Cool! I'll autograph it for you sometime.

I asked for it for Christmas too, but Santa's bag must have already been full... Tried to buy it on Amazon today, and they were sold out.... I'll have to track Richard down and see if he's got any left!

Re: New Book on Idaho Strips Recently Published

So, I finally found a little time to start editing some pictures from my idaho trip. I was looking through the pics and I forgot about this one.

I took it at the Flying B Ranch on my last day in Idaho. Me and the Chosstronaught flew there with some other "lurkers" for breakfast.

I did a search to see if this book has been posted on yet. I just ordered my own copy. Its full of cool pictures and stories. A must have!

I just recently obtained my copy. He has a 2nd edition out now, which adds a complete table of contents. The book was worth every penny.

I initially saw the same regarding Amazon. I waited for a while for it to come back in stock and I came to the conclusion that the amazon retail and distribution model did not suit this product and it was unlikely to come back in stock anytime soon.

To be honest it was sold out everywhere at the time and the amazon was probably the last place it was going to be restocked.

None the less, I'm really surprised one of the local book stores hasn't listed it as a third party seller yet -- it is readily available in Boise at several stores.
