Amy and Dick's new book is now out. Should be an excellent read full of applicable know-how.

Nice, have been waiting for that to be released. It looks like it ships May 20 per a couple other online sellers, but you can also save about $15 not buying it on ASA's site as well - Amazon, B&N to name a couple.

On the third chapter. It's a great book and it reminds me of how my structural engineering professor would teach us a concept and then give us a story ~ which would make you remember the concept.

It is indeed a great book. I was a reviewer of the book, and I found it to be well written, and informative, as well as easy to read and digest.

In my opinion, this will be the replacement for Sparky Imeson's excellent books, which are kind of long in the tooth now, but still relevant.

Went to buy it, but couldn't do so just on principle.

I'm not going to pay $10 *more* for the kindle version. (And I'm sure as hell not going to buy a dead trees edition, what is this 1943? lol!)

I bought the pricier Kindle version just because my Kindle is always in my airplane and if I'm ever stuck in the woods it will be nice to have an aviation book to read.

Looking forward to reading it.

I am halfway through the book now and I have really enjoyed it. I live in TX where I do most of my day to day flying but I'm headed to Peru next month. The book has given me lots to think about regarding terrain I am not regularly flying into. I'd recommend the book to anyone regardless of where you fly.

I guess reading about it is one way to learn. I could have used this years ago, I learned the cheaper (didn't have to buy a book) way, but at the same time the more expensive (repairs) way. Living where I do, I forget most others only mountain fly rarely, so I can for sure see the need and wisdom of buying this.

What's a "Kindle?"

Kidding, but as a big reader, I have yet to get one of them or their ilk, it just don't seem right, but I also still subscribe to the local newspaper. Any others who grudgingly got a first E reading device and kicked themselves for waiting so long to do so? Am I missing out???

I don’t think so. I got a Kindle a few years ago and really didn’t like it. And, yes, I still get the paper.....the actual paper.

Amy’s doing a live seminar sponsored by the local Washington Pilots Assoc Chapter later this month (9/28) at Moses Lake Muni.

I do Kindle for novels because I like to read in bed in the dark. For flying books I always opt for paper. I like having them on the shelf.

Re: new book on mountain, backcountry and canyon flying

Actually an interesting phenomenon. I used to read a couple of magazines pretty much cover to cover. Switched them to e-editions. Beautiful on I Pad, but I hardly look at them now.

And I really can’t tell you why. Different experience.

Re: new book on mountain, backcountry and canyon flying

My only gripe with the Kindle is that things like graphs and maps that are not part of the text, don't zoom and can be really difficult to read.

Now it may be the fact that I have a Paperwhite and not one of the sexier color thingies.

Re: new book on mountain, backcountry and canyon flying

I will learn from anyone, except Pocock but that is because of his clownish marketing, and spend the money to do it (I think I am on my 5th copy of Notes of a Seaplane Instructor, people keep "borrowing" it) but if there is more than a chapter about Density Altitude I will wait til it comes out at Tidal Wave used books. So tell me...is there more than one chapter about DA?
