Re: New EarthX STCs for August 2023

Thanks for all the work. I will be adding one as soon as something is available for us firewall battery guys. On a different note, I noticed the J3 is on the list for upcoming STCs. If this model never came with an electrical system, I’m wondering if it can be approved via STC for a different battery. Could you shine some light please?. Thank you!

Isn’t it just up to your IA to determine the proper interaction of different STCs?

Re: New EarthX STCs for August 2023

I can confirm the ETX-900 TSO earthx battery - the one STC’d does fit in the Atlee Dodge firewall battery box. There was some confusion as the older version of the ETX-900 was just a few MM too thick. 3.1 inches and the battery box was 3 inches. Earthx changed the case on the ETX-900 TSO and it’s now 3 inches. Although their website still says 3.1(at least when I bought mine cause I pointed it out to them when I checked to see if it would fit) I confirmed with them before I ordered, and I installed it today and it does fit.

I have the older folder over latch - which hits the vent tube, the newer battery boxes have a different latch that fits the earthx, so my a&p is going to retro fit my box with the newer latch.

My ground cable also was too wide to fit the earth x - so I had to daisy chain a regular style cable to test the battery (ground start) - if you are wondering why it looked weird in the picture.

Two observations -
1) this thing is light!!
2) It does have more cranking power then the Odyssey. It powers right through the compression cycle my battery would struggle with.

It’s like the 170’s are the bastard step child that never gets in on the action…again!

Their website suggests that us 170 folk will get in on the action Q4 2023.

Re: New EarthX STCs for August 2023

Has anyone moved the battery from the rear location and calculated the weight savings? All that wire. My 182C is nose heavy already with the three blade Hartzell. Thanks, Ken

100% agree! we always get passed over.

I'm not optimistic on the 4th quarter timeline. *sigh* If they don't get this sorted then I'm gonna have to lose 9# myself and I dont wanna.
