New Fly in winery on a grass strip. Norcal

I was hanging out at clarksburg last night with the owner and the property next door was having a big party. It is actually a new winery called miners leap.

I havn't been there yet but the rumor is he always has an IPA on tap also.

Clarksburg cn13 is private on the charts but open to the public. They had issues with FAA so just went private on the charts to make it easier. Land east takeoff west. There is a noise sensitive horse ranch on the other side of the river.

I'll be driving to the winery soon.

Very nice.

I wonder why some of these Indian casinos don't have a small strip for us as well. Or maybe they want us to use their golf course?

Got my tailwheel rating in a J3 out of Ranch Murieta. Always flew over to Clarksburg for practice. The grass was frequently over the level of the tires which helped to compensate for the wonderful brakes on the J3 and soften my initial landings! There's a nice powerline AT the threshold when approaching from the east. Made for the perfect obstacle clearance practice with short field approach. Seem to recall a nudist colony somewhere there in the straight line path between Clarkburg and Rancho...
Don't recall a lot of wine growing around there. Is it now built up with vineyards, or are they just contracting for the grapes?
Thanks for the info!

Is Clarksburg under the Class D of Executive? Seems to be right on the edge of the airspace?

Great tip. Need to be there in Feb. Will check it out. Ditto on the "where is a good hotel nearby" question?

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: New Fly in winery on a grass strip. Norcal

No hotel. There is nothing else around. This is a fly in, have your passengers drink wine, and fly out, kind of place. The town of clarksburg is a few miles south and may have lodging. I don't know about cabs. Bikes could work.

Nope no cabs there. More like Zinfandel country.

Good little strip but I haven't been there in a few years.

When I said cab I was talking about the yellow kind with wheels to get you to town. Clarksburg has a few good cabernets around.

Google map shows the Moon River Inn is a 1.3 mile flat walk.

(The google search nearby feature works great. Enjoyed a Salvadorean restaurant in Mendota because of it.)

What google maps doesn't show you is that the 1.3 miles is on a very narrow levy road complete with 1 lane bridge crossing. very dangerous to walk.

I'll be hitting the winery on friday so I will give a trip report. Hopefully it will be good.
