That's not a terrible idea. Depends on the person, but a TV, couches and a warm smile might pass muster if there were a stack of training DVDs there or, even better, a way to hook your gopro to the TV for flight review purposes. :-)

"Hey, Mr. Assistant Manger (or LEO), come on in, we were just about to do some recurrent training on IFR procedures if you're interested."

If that doesn't work then it's a lost cause. :-(

I still have no idea how to explain a fridge full of beer...

Re: new guy at the airport

Knowledge is important in these situations and emotion won't carry the day. Best know why the airport manager is suddenly enforcing the rules. These guys usually don't do a lot until they need to react to some higher authority that has put the screws to them. Look up the airport grant assurances, talk to the airport manager, talk to the fire marshal, talk to the FAA ADO or FSDO, read your lease. Know fully why this is happening and then figure out where there's some give and take so you can do something about it.
Yep

And your case can be made much stronger if you take action such as have the pilot's association create a reasonable usage policy and submit it to the Governing Body and the Manager. Present the case that regular guys in their hangars are the best security an airport could ask for, we know everything going on and which cars belong and which are strangers. Let the Manager know that you support fixing this situation;
I personally know of hangars where there is a fuselage in the rafters and 5 cars in the hangar
There's no guarantee that any of it will work, but it's worth a try.

Re: new guy at the airport

Gillespie pilots assoc and several others are writing letters to the airport authority... there is a hypothesis being forwarded that , airport officers and Mgrs have conducted hangar inspections for years to check for fire extinguishers .... they have written down N numbers and checked to see that no gas is being stored in hangars... never at any time has anyone been told to remove cars or any item in a hangar...this has been the norm for over 30 years that I know of... so if it was never a problem before and became the norm then change at this time is not valid.... I don't know the legality of that train of thought. but at least one tenant was given till 24th of june to remove his boats from a storage area that cannot possibly accomodate an aircraft...that being 12 x 24.....anyway I'll keep you all posted but for now everyone is keeping doors closed ...

Seems like lawyers trying to run the world. Our airport has a similar policy but it is reasonably enforced.... I keep a chair and some tools in the hangar and haven't had any issues. In my opinion, if you have a flying airplane or something close to that and some supporting equipment/furnishings, that should be good enough. If you are just storing non-aviation related stuff then that is a disservice to pilots everywhere and should be addressed.

Are you at Nampa or Caldwell?

Caldwell has been doing the same. But, has been reasonably enforced as well. It's been an on going notice for a while to give hangar tenants/owners time to clean up or move non aviation stuff out if there is no plane parked in the hangar. I've known of one tenant that was using a hangar as a race car shop, but has now been gone for a while now.

But, it's still crazy how the fun police is ruining this country!!! It's getting more and more that you feel that there's always somebody watching what your doing and will find something wrong with what your doing. What's that old sang?? "We're not happy, till your not happy!!" :?

Re: new guy at the airport

The FAA is considering a policy on non-aeronautical use of hangars, the comment period ends September 5.

https://www.federalregister.gov/article ... rt-hangars

The goals of the policy make sense, but some of the standards are overly restrictive. Shouldn't matter if the item stored takes up a significant amount of space in the hangar, as long as you can get your aircraft in and out. The policy should be determined locally.
