New law to take away more of our wilderness

I usually like to stay out of political topics but this one really needs some attention. I am against this bill and I hope you all will call your reps and tell them how you feel. I really don't know enough about it to say much but here is a link. http://www.wildrockiesalliance.org/issues/nrepa/index.html

Look all the land the want to take away

Yup... The tree huggers are out of control again and most law abiding, multi use land user americans are going to suffer... Look right below Yellowstone, see all the green ? Yup, thats my backyard and I am pissed...

The difference between an environmentalist and a developer is that the developer wants to build a cabin in the woods. The environmentalist already has one.

We are surrounded by a national park. As well intended as the idea was, it has a few flaws, and frustrates those who work there probably more than those who do not.

Everyone here dislikes public lands being designated Wilderness. All the anti-environmentalist stuff has been said time and again, it's a waste of database space to chime in time and again to tell us how much you hate tree huggers. Unfortunately the people capable of voting against this don't cruise BCP enjoying the witty zingers aimed at environmentalists.

One thing I rarely see is a lot of information being exchanged on how to correspond with congresspeople or the bill sponsor. I suggest actually doing something and following the progress with this thread. Thanks Whee for the heads up.

Sorry Z for bringing this here...I just want to get the word out. I am opposed to this bill and have called my representative and would like others to do the same. I knew nothing about the bill until until a snowmobiling buddy sent be an email. Seems like the bill is not getting any attention from the public and it needs too. The link I posted it to the group that supports the bill because there is no other good, updated site that has any info.

I think it's good to bring it here...it's relevant. I'd just rather see threads like this actually accomplish something, like getting some folks calling or writing.

Hey Z. Hate to throw cold water on ya but I have been writing and calling all my life. Walley Herger is my rep and I already know he is against this bill. Boxer and Feinstien are my Senators so good luck there. The only hope we have of defeating this is that when it goes to the senate, the party out of power will filibuster it to death.

But you know that will not happen cus a few of them will just want to get along. The vote will be about the same as the stimulus package.

Good for you. You can write other reps outside of CA too. All I'm saying is I'd like to see more useful information and less opinion around here.

No need to get bent out of shape, Stol. Wouldn't you rather see the thread focus on the battle, instead of general opinions? When trying to follow a thread, it's tough to pick though post after post of people speculating and joking with general political statements. Where's the meat? Where's the actual details on this topic of wilderness expansion in Idaho? Who's behind it? What's the best structured counterargument?

Alaskans have "written the book" so to speak, when it comes to writing letters to city hall. Guess it's the long winters. We also get pretty good at "witty zingers".

Whatever Z, it's your house.

I checked all the co sponsors and all but 2 are democrats. The folks behind this stuff have both houses of congress, the White House and will soon have the Supreme Court. Oh and they have the mainstram media behind it.

They will not listen to me cus as they keep reminding me, they won and I lost.

Actually I think Z has it correct here.

Put phone numbers, names, addresses for the folks that need to be contacted.

The "dems" or "treehuggers" do not get everything automatically, for example the use of snowmobiles in yellowstone, a loss for them in the exact area that this is located in.

I support Z's position.

That doesn't mean every D in the house is automatically going to vote for it. David Woo (D), my local rep, was an opponent of the GA user fees. Isn't it giving up to write off every democrat in the house as a tree hugger? Perhaps many of them are more reasonable and centered than you think. Silence is an automatic loss.

So out of 51 sponsors/cosponsors, only one is from an affected State and that is Jay Inslee of Washington State. This bill impacts lands in the States of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. No other representatives from these states are on the list. A whole bunch from Kalifornia are, though.

So why not focus some of our writing/calling efforts on Congressman Inslee from Washington State. Especially those of you living in WA. It is a powerful argument against a bill when there is little support from the affected states.
