Re: new shoes

Nice!!

I just got some too!...well 26's anyways. Putting them on my 140 as soon as I get the engine back from overhaul and installed. OMG did I really just spend that much $$$ Oh well, no sense in trying to justify it...

Heres a pic next to the 8:50 shoes I'm taking off:

Re: new shoes

yeah I try not to think about the cost...hopefully nothing will come up that I need my money to fix for a while...am wondering what to expect in how these things feel differently than my 800's.. are they more squirely requiring even more dilligence on the rudder or are they more forgiving.. would appreciate input from any of you guys who've gone to them from regular tires.... :?:

Are those 26's Airstreaks or regulars?

Re: new shoes

Should be airstreaks, I think the max weight on them is 1700? And the gross weight on a 140 is 1450.

Re: new shoes

26" airstreaks are quite a bit cheaper than regular BW's, as well as quite a bit lighter. As I recall they're only about 2 pounds heavier than 850 airtracs. Both of which qualities appeal to me.

Better use em on some rough stuff, or else they're just penis extenders... :)

Re: new shoes

Yep they're Airstreaks. Cheaper and lighter is always good, and I can use them on a Rans S7 if I decide to build one this summer. Got a few local strips to break them in, then I'll be headed for the hills to find some new places to land

They should be installed by next week. I have to drive to red bluff tonight and pick up my engine, and get that sucker back on first though...can't wait, I've been grounded for too long.

And just what's wrong with extending your penis?

I'm in King City, south of Salinas about 50 miles. I will definitely join you guys just as soon as I can. Been drooling over the "west circuit" for quite awhile, it's about a 2 hour flight to get to that neck of the woods but that's no prob cuz I love to fly!!

I have about another month or so off from work, plan to do as much (recreational) flying as I can, especially with the new engine and tires!! I plan on doing another NorCal tour starting around Feb 25th...looking forward to it!!

Just weighed them today, the 850 Airtracs were 16 lbs. with tubes, and the 26" Airstreaks were 21 lbs. Tires added 10 lbs to the plane, but I gained around 5lbs back by adding a Skytec starter...maybe I can shave another 5 lbs. off the big nut behind the yoke  Oh, and the penis extension, well, every little bit helps !! 8)

I would've had pics but started drinking beer and forgot before it got dark... #-o

Re: new shoes

I gained 3.5" (of height, no exension jokes here) at the axles over my 800's, you'll feel that change in angle of attack once you get air in those ABW's, even at only 5psi of inflation. I think it gets me airborne 10ft sooner with that increased angle - never thought it would be one of the benefits but it makes a big diff....
