New SoCal Backcountry group

Hey everyone, our 1st annual Kern Valley Airport Backcountry Fly-In was a great success and we wanted to follow up with a group to hang out together down here the rest of the year...
Join our new group to be notified of the next Fly-in/campout to places we love to go like Kern Valley Airport, Carver's Cut, desert runs, etc! https://www.facebook.com/groups/SoCalBackcountryFlyers/

Re: New SoCal Backcountry group

Is there a way to do this without going through Facebook? Perhaps a simple e-mail list can be piggybacked onto the Facebook system or the messages can be copied onto an e-mail list like the successful Matronics lists?

^^ What EZ said ^^

Facebook and I don't see eye-to-eye on policy, so we no longer share diplomatic relations.

Or just post any fly-outs/get togethers here as well... I don't do Facebook either.

That's it, I think Rob nailed it. Perhaps Zzz will allow a sub-forum or series of regional sub-forums on the topic of local back country fly-ins, STOL contests, or weekend "Basket of Deplorables" lunch runs, etc.

He should name it "Events/Fly-Ins and Trip Planning"

No, that forum is only for the ones in Bikini Atoll. My idea was to have regional sub-forums, you know, like regions.

Re: New SoCal Backcountry group

I'll try to start cross-posting my fly-out plans to the Facebook group and the Events page here. I think more simple than adding more sub-forums would be to simply tag the heading of the post with "SOCAL - Fly-Out Plan _______________" so it's more apparent when viewing.

Hahaha...yes.

You can create a more dedicated group here under "groups" from the main menu. Create it and it will be subject to admin approval. It will email members (if they choose notifications for groups) every time there is a post. We have one set up for NW Oregon.

While somewhat parallel in scope to the forum, it can be a good tool for groups since ideally you won't have the people joining in who feel the need to post on every single post whether it's relevant to them or not.

Re: New SoCal Backcountry group

I've been avoiding signing up on Facebook, successfully so far.
But darn near everybody in the whole world seems to be on it but me.
Glad to see some kindred spirits here.

We have a local discussion forum, pacificnorthwestflying.com, that I joined some years ago.
Lots of people on there don't necessarily share my tastes in airplanes or places to go,
but it's good for keeping track of local / regional activities and issues.
A while back, someone started a Facebook group, "Flights Above the Pacific Northwest" (aka FAT PNW),
and a lot of the PNF.com regulars seem to have dropped off the discussion site and gone there instead.
Lots less PNF.com participation lately anyways.
Hopefully the same doesn't ever happen here.
