Nice catch. It sure looks like it. Both the global star and the Spot have the same look and both have guts from qualcomm.

Doesnt' matter if it's the same as an old Globalstar phone....it IS a Globalstar phone, and therefore not going to be very reliable.

Do all the spot products use that network?

Re: New Spot Phone?

I am pretty sure they do. Not irridium network, so reliability is suspect.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: New Spot Phone?

Spot and Global star are one of the same and are spotty....Um..(that's a good one) at best. Iridium is a premium service at a premium price, but as always, you get what you pay for.

Re: New Spot Phone?

Globalstar has gotten better, but still not anywhere close to 100%. We whined so much about ours that they put us on a pay if you use it plan. In fact, the last time I used it, which was last summer, I didn't get a bill.

I think they are trying, still hoping Spot will bail them out.

Re: New Spot Phone?

SPOT was simply a stop gap measure as one way communications were not affected by the Gen 1 satellites going belly up. By late summer GS will have 24 second generation satellites in position and this means call reliability will be back to normal pre-2007 levels.
