New tires

Sometimes the most fun way to get into the backcountry, Part 103 Ultralights and Light Sport Aircraft have their own considerations.

New tires

I pulled the trigger on a set of 27" Dessers last night to go with my new TK1 racing extended gear. Should be a substantial upgrade from my 21" AtV tires.

Re: New tires

Uh oh! Looks like our conversation just costed you ;) Excited to see how it looks, you'll have to fly it up to my neck of the woods and we will go play around in the sierras.

Re: New tires

Oh man, the Avid is going to look so tough on that gear and the 27" tires! They are a big step up from the ATV tires, I think you'll be happy with them.

Re: New tires

Report on the TK1 gear also please. Haven't kept abreast of some of the mods available for the Avid/Kitfox series and never heard of the TK1 gear.

Re: New tires

With the help of a friend we were able to get the gear under the plane yesterday. Wow it's a monster now! I hope it works half as well as it looks!! Also got the motor hung yesterday as well. Couple of more good work sessions it will be ready to taxi.

Re: New tires

Looks good Joey!

Just because no one else commented, I guess I feel the need to point out you referred to your new shock strut as "the cabane", that is incorrect terminology, the cabane is that triangle thingie in the middle, what the shock struts attach to at the upper end. Since I got publicly embarrassed here long ago (the word hangar does not have any e's  thanks for that Zane) it is payback time.

New tires

Damn! Looks good. I recently experienced that same feeling when I put the new gear and tires on my plane. Like Oli said, let us know how the shocks perform. Congrats! Looks like a beast!

Re: New tires

The shock strut, whether bungee, airshocks, or whatever. At least that is what John Roberts called them.

BTW, it looks like you cabane is faired? Cool.

Re: New tires

Yes I faired it all with lightweight wood fairings. Not a fan of fabric covered bush gear but figured the wood can't hurt.

Re: New tires

Thought I'd add my 2 cents, seeing as it's all I have to fly for the next few weeks, hahaha

Re: New tires

Just a quick update to this thread. I was only able to fly my plane a handful a times before I had to deploy again. I made about 15 landings with it and so far it's pretty awesome. The TK1 struts I have an early set. The owner flew down and set up the pressure in them for me. He mentioned they have made a lot of valving changes over the last year and half or so. Once I get back I am going to fly up to Lincoln and he's going to make some changes to them for me. I'm still relearning how to land the plane and breaking in my zero timed engine so I didn't get much of a chance to really see what it will do. I will report more on this thread later on.

She looks all grown up like a real bushplane now!!
