New (to me) airstrip in Ochoco Mountains... Anyone know it?

Image

Found a new airstrip near the junction of US 26 and SR 207 near the town of Mitchell, Oregon. Doesn't show up on a sectional chart or on shortfield.com. The picture above is from Google Earth.

I have a friend that has a ranch near there, was thinking of going to visit sometime. Anyone have any information on this strip? Public? Private? Pirep?, Etc...

Your Google Earth picture didn't make your post? I was going to suggest that it might be the Antone Ranch (paved), but then I noticed that that is on the sectional chart and you already stated that the one you are looking at is not. There are some other private ranches near there like the Six Shooter Ranch that has a strip or maybe two. See if you can post your pic again and if you find out any info on it that you can share post it :D

The picture is posted and showing up in my computer??? I would use the BCP photo gallery, but it doesn't seem to be up and running yet.

The Google Maps link worked. Zane is working on an issue with pictures not showing up. That probably has something to do with me not being able to see the one in your first post.

I'll do a little research to see what I can find out about that strip.

Brad, I think your issue with the pic you embedded is that it's an attachment from another forum, and probably is restricted from hotlinking or required the user to be logged into cubcraftersforums.com

It looks like it's on BLM land to me. Easier to ask forgivness? Here's my source:

Sorry I'm not much help, but I'm still curious to know if you find anything els out.

He was shooting though not just landing on a landing strip on public land.

Nope, not yet, Need to find out where his ranch is in relation to the strip. Might be a while.

If this question is too far off-topic and there is a discussion elsewhere, please direct me to it.

I am new to this, so I'm wondering if there are any sources I can access that show places where it is legal to land (and where it's clearly illegal). I've started collecting the coordinates for listed strips in my area, but most of them are private.

Re: New (to me) airstrip in Ochoco Mountains... Anyone know

Exhuming an old thread here.

Has anyone been into the Mitchell strip lately (2017)? I'd appreciate any information about it--length, surface, gradient, approach and departure notes. Looks like it's at a little over 1,000 msl based on Google maps, but I'm not so sure.

Thanks for any help.
