hi, i am roger pfeifer and new to the forum. i would like to also remark on the pleasures of float flying. i have flown in alaska for the past 37 years. orginally as an army helicopter pilot and then in 79 i bought my first maule, an m4 which we put on floats right away. i have 1200 hrs on floats in the m4 and now an m6 and i am still learning. float flying here in alaska is wonderful. it opens up so much country. the scenery is beautiful, the terrian and weather challenging, the hunting and fishing great. i fly mostly to hunt and fish but never get tried of the flight itself. each time i go thru a mountain pass or land at a new lake or on a river i think how blessed i am to be able to fly in this country and share these sights and adventures with my friends. most flights allow seeing moose, caribou, dall sheep, mt goats, black bear, or brown bear. flying over a stream you can look down and see the salmon moving up stream in a solid ribbon. land in a mt lake and watch the greyling or rainbow trout as they come to strike the fly.
with all the pleasures you must respect the terrian and weather, flight plan carefully, carry the right gear to allow you to stay put if weather will not allow the planned return flight and insure you can protect the plane when the wind and waves try their best to damage it. all in all i love it. if any of you are coming this way i would be glad to share any knowledge of the state that i can.
