New Toy

I finally took a pic of my J3 I bought this summer. I have put around 100 hours on her. I bought this Jet Dock, and a set of full covers from Bruces Customs to keep her out of the sun. Fully restored J3 with a 74/38 prop and a new set of Aqua 1500's. What ablast.

Robert "Bub" Wright, aka Skylane, passed away in November of 2011. He was a beloved community member and will be missed.

That is sweet, wish it was mine.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

What speed do you have to hit that dock to park it on top? :P

Very nice!

I have never flown a float plane but I have done a lot a sailing so I can appreciate the challenge it must be to handle the aircraft on water. Do you find the wind places more or less restrictions on you than being on land? Obviously, you can take off and land into the wind easier as long as the body of water has enough room. But there has to be a quite a kitting effect and wave height is probably a factor to. Thoughts?

Guys I am located in Mankato, MN. Just south of Minneapolis 50 miles.
Landing is a piece of cake. Always into the wind. I have an island off my dock that acts as a wind shelter during high seas. I tried driving the plane on the ramp the first flight and ripped the spray rails off like a popcan. They tore completely off. After one more attempt I realized she doesnt have the power to run on up. I have a hand winch but am going to use an ATV winch next summer with a deep cycle battery.

blakeH, glad to see someone my age on here. I just turned 30 2 weeks ago. I went to a camping fly-in in Marble colorado and finally meet a kid that was an airplane owner and younger then me, he is 29 and has a nice SuperCub.
I think that J-3 is beautiful, was it painted yesterday 8)
I like the photo of the Turbine powered Maule under your sign-in name. you don't happen to own one of them do you? Peter

If you guys would like to see a fun spot go on over to Colorado Pilots Association.com and check out the Marble flyin under past events. not sure how to do the link thing yet.

The turbine Maule is my dads. I only get to fly it about 50 hours per year. Its fun and has alot of zip, we upgraded the motor to 466 HP from 420.

BlakeH, man your dads airplane is ucking sweet. Now i'm sure he understands its not a mighty Piper pacer or anything  but sweet nontheless. Have you flown either airplane as a tailwheel?
I'm not sure how different if at all the m-7 420c is compared to my plane but i can hardly imagine flying my bird with a 420 or a 466HP engine.
Don't be a stanger on the site. see ya Peter

Peter. I have flown two different turbomaules and both are on floats. I did the flight certfication for Baumann on floats with the FAA. We gave one a real pounding for the certification. They can take more abuse than most people give them credit for. We had planned on 35" Bushwheels this winter but I havent heard whether they are STC'd yet. I will give a report when I get a bit of time on big tires.
