They are cool and scary looking at the same time. Anybody remember what causes Mammatus clouds?

From experience I can tell you if you get in close to these types of clouds you'll get in some of the roughest air your likely to experience. Especially if you find them preceeding a storm

Actually, there's a really good description about how and why they form if you follow the link Zane provided, but Mark is pretty much right.

Just when I thought the visual couldn't get worse, you had to add the peas and corn. My humor is pretty out there, I only play nice cuz I'm the moderator, so I'll leave it up to the rest of the collective as to whether they like to visualize the peas and corn in their mammatus.

I need to find a pukey smiley.
