Nice Obit: Carrying Your Own Load

Found this excellentpiece of writing in the recent issue of High Country news.

Names and dates are changed, but I imagine I know who this is about, and I bet a lot of you do too.

I am putting it up because it strikes me as a kind and thoughtful tribute- a lot better than what the five o'clock news is bound to make out of the event last weekend in Utah.

Something to think about, in any case.

I knew Kirby. Met him at Smiley Creek many years ago. Was to meet him at JC two years ago. He was a good pilot and had many hours in his low powered 172 in the mountains.

It can happen to anybody. Be carefull this summer. get good shoulder harnesses. I think they would have saved Kirby.

In reading the story they changed the name to Kirby for some reason.

Yes it is Berk.
