Nice piece on the original 182 in AOPA Pilot
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
This month's Pilot magazine has a story on a restored 1956 182. I know we have several straight tail 182 guys around here, so it's prob nice to see some quality photography of a really nice bird.
You'll need to log into the AOPA portal to read the article:

Great photos in the print magazine.

I read that one first also. They forgot to mention that by 1959 they finally got it right.

So I am glad I got one of the best ones Cessan made. Bob

Having number 502 off the assembly line (33502) I've seen dozens of pre slant tail 182's. Best of the breed !!

58 and 59 are best. 58 and later they put in rudder trim. 59 they added cowl flaps and also a better instrument and radio arrangment.
59 is definatly the best. Last strait tail.

Yeah, I think cowl flaps would be good to have on my 58 182

I like the Johnson bar flap handle, the cowl flaps and the lower gear on the 1959. I do realize that the earlier models had the manual flaps as well. Bob

I've got the Johnson Bar in my 58. I wouldn't mind having the taller gear, too or maybe some 29" tires

Here's an idea. Us Cessna striaght tail guys (172 & 182) should meet up at Johnson Creek (or some where else) sometime next summer. Why not? The Super Cub and 185 guys do.

150's and strait tail 310's should also be invited.

Well, maybe we should include all early Cessna's. Maybe same weekend as the 185's at JC. Have the planes park in certian area's according to model type

I will pass on being anywhere the 180 / 185 gang hang out at. They have nice planes, but as a group leave a lot to be desired. One or two at time they are OK.
I would say that we just meet up at Smiley Creek. You can buy a bottle of Saw Tooth wine across the street. I do not drink but you can.

Sounds good to me, Tim. Got to remember, I'm still kind of new around here and don't know everybody and what each group of people are like. Maybe just some of the Cessna guys here can meet at Smiley Creek. I don't drink niether.

I would be interested, if the date(s) are open. I like the round tailed 170, as I flew one for 835 hours. My first plane was a Cessna 170, and I learned how to fly in it. Bob

Do not tell Zane but I think the 170 is the best looknig Cessna made.
Plan it now. Strait tail fly in the last weekend of August, 09. at Smiley Creek. I think that is the weekend of Salmon festival in Stanley.

Camp at Smiley Creek then fly to Stanley for snacks.
