no property taxes on Nevada airports

I have discovered an interesting law in the land of heat, dust, and wind.

NRS 361.061 wrote: NRS 361.061 Property related to public use of privately owned airport exempted; exclusion.

1. The acquisition, improvement or use of land by the public as an airport is a municipal purpose, whether or not the airport is owned or operated by a local government.

2. The real property and improvements of a privately owned airport which are used by the public without charge, including areas used for taking off, landing and taxiing but excluding areas from which income is derived, are exempt from taxation.

(Added to NRS by 1985, 869)

If I can figure out how to sidestep some liability issues, there will be a tax-exempt airport in my future!

I am sure that there is a Lawer or two on this forum. My brother is a lawer and I have stayed at a Holiday Inn. Even if you can stop the liability, you may have to defend yourself in court at great cost just to win a case.

You may not fully understand the scope of that, all it means is, they just don't tax you as an airport they still tax you on the land. OOOHHH and they love taxing the improvements.

Last year they tried to tell me resealing was an improvement. So I asked the assessor if they raised there own taxes because they painted there house that year. No that's maintenance yep so is resealing the runway. [-X

Is your resealing of the runway at an airport that's not open for public use (in which case the exemption would not apply) ?

I think this law is pretty clear. It says that "The real property and improvements...are exempt from taxation" providing that the public is allowed to use it at no charge.

Re: no property taxes on Nevada airports

We live in Nevada now (seven years ) after kalifonia .We have property taxes on hanger and airplane stuff. We moved he for lower taxes -but it's catching up fast. Because of all the foreclosures and "were out of here -no jobs" our property taxes have gone UP --- Way UP ! Jobs and payrolls are down 50% from 2 years ago and unemployment is rampant. No water, all the electricity is going to kaliforina ,no jobs ,rampant crime ,few if any visitors or conventions after bs blasted Nevada . bs = berry soloita aka burrack oboma . Things are going to hell in a hand basket here.
Looking at Arizona and Idaho - winter AZ and spring summers ID.
