Re: Weather Maps

Nice find, Pat. I'm going to change your subject to make it more specific.

Another one from NOAA
Gives a good description to the weather.....in terms that even I can understand.

On the area forecast text how do you change the location? Or what tab is that page located on the site? It looks like a good resource!

I'm not sure, I looked briefly but didn't get anywhere.
This is the URL that I start with (pacific NW).
Click on AFD under forecast discussion.

Titus577:

Check your local NWS office. For me, I go to the Sacramento site. Not knowing where in SoCal you are from, I'm guessing you are in the LA/Oxnard office region:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/get ... d&back=yes

Hopefully this link will get you the forecast discussion. If you are in San Diego or Hanford office's region, I can get you a link to those sites too, or just search the area pages for the forecast discussion. See here: This should work for anyone else interested.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/wrh/forecastoffice_tab.php

Like Terry I find this discussion to be some of the best info available as to how confident the weather guessers feel about the accuracy and severity of their forecasts.......I usually make sure I look at it in addition to any flight briefing I get. There is good discussion on winds during fair weather flying, as well as many of our areas that are not well covered by TAF's.

Re: NOAA Weather Map w/METAR & TAF

If you go here: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/ You will get to the main NOAA weather service page.

Click on the map for your area. For example Scaratamato.

And you will go here: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sto/

Along the left margin you will see Forecasts. Under there should be a Forecast Discussion choice. I have noticed each region has a different term and format for the discussions. For example the Sacto page calls it AFD Discussions and SEA calls it Frcst Discussion and Text/Graphical are the choices. Graphical is where you can click on the highlighted terms for further explanation.

This and the Aviation Forecast areas are a wealth of weather information. You are paying for it you might as well use it.
