NorCal pilots...widespread TFRs this weekend

FAA TO ESTABLISH TFRs OVER SAN JOSE, ST. HELENA, SACRAMENTO THIS WEEKEND
AOPA is sending this message to advise pilots in and near San Jose,
St. Helena, and Sacramento, California, that the FAA has issued notams
restricting flight in those areas during President Bush's planned
visits on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22.

There will be a large 30-nautical-mile-radius temporary flight
restriction (TFR) over San Jose centered on the SJC VOR's 278-degree
radial at 5.6 miles, extending up to Flight Level 180. It will be in
effect from 1:10 p.m. local until 7:50 p.m. local on Friday. Also, there
will be multiple smaller 10-nm-radius GA no-fly zones in effect within
the larger TFR during that timeframe. See AOPA Online for the full
text of the notam along with a graphical depiction
( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#6/5750 ).

The affected landing facilities are Palo Alto Airport of Santa Clara
County (PAO), Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International (SJC), San
Carlos (SQL), Reid-Hillview of Santa Clara County (RHV), Hayward
Executive (HWD), San Francisco International (SFO), Livermore
Municipal (LVK), Metropolitan Oakland International (OAK), Half
Moon Bay (HAF), South County Airport of Santa Clara County (E16),
and Watsonville Municipal (WVI).

The president will remain overnight in St. Helena on Friday. The
30-nm-radius TFR over St. Helena will be centered on the STS VOR's
068-degree radial at 16.7 miles, extending up to Flight Level 180. It
will be in effect from 7:35 p.m. local on Friday until 2:15 p.m. local
on Saturday. Also, there will be a smaller 10-nm-radius GA no-fly zone
in effect within the larger TFR during that timeframe. See AOPA Online
for the full text of the notam along with a graphical depiction
( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#6/5754 ).

The affected landing facilities are Angwin-Parrett Field (2O3), Lake
Berryessa SPB (E20), Sonoma Skypark (0Q9), Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma
County (STS), Petaluma Municipal (O69), Sonoma Valley (0Q3), Napa
County (APC), Healdsburg Municipal (O31), Gnoss Field (DVO), Nut Tree
(VCB), Yolo County-Davis/Woodland/Winters (2Q3), Watts-Woodland (O41),
and Cloverdale Municipal (O60).

On Saturday, a 30-nm-radius TFR over Sacramento will be centered on
the MCC VOR's 235-degree radial at 7.8 miles, extending up to Flight
Level 180. It will be in effect from 1:45 p.m. local until 4:45 p.m.
local on Saturday. Also, there will be multiple smaller 10-nm-radius
GA no-fly zones in effect within the larger TFR during that timeframe.
See AOPA Online for the full text of the notam along with a graphical
depiction ( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#6/5763 ).

The affected landing facilities are Sacramento International (SMF), Rio
Linda (L36), Sacramento Executive (SAC), McClellan Airfield (MCC),
Borges-Clarksburg (C14), University (0O5), Sacramento Mather (MHR),
Yolo County-Davis/Woodland/Winters (2Q3), Watts-Woodland (O41), Elk
Grove (E27), Lincoln Regional/Karl Harder Field (LHM), Franklin Field
(F72), Folsom Lake SPB (C39), Rancho Murieta (RIU), Nut Tree (VCB),
Rio Vista Municipal (O88), Cameron Airpark (O61), Yuba County (MYV),
Lodi (1O3), Auburn Municipal (AUN), and Sutter County (O52).

Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages
pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight.
TFR violators will be intercepted and forced to land.

Zane,

I think I'll stay put this weekend. Last I checked the F-16's may have a knot or two on my Maule and I don't think I could out run them... ;-)

But you can out turn them. You will have the advantage in a DOG FIGHT.

Unless.. they shoot

I've had dog fights with F-16's in the Gladden MOA (or should I say I was a practice target?). Believe me, it ain't a fair fight.
