North Dakota Strips

Been up here in ND for the last 6 years, flown across the state numerous times and into some small public strips, most paved but am wondering if anyone happens to know of any great places?

North Dakota Strips

Starbuck, MN is a good grass strip. Camper friendly. Can walk to lake Minnewaska beach and local bar n grill(s). They have a fly in every 4th of July.

My daughter lives in Fargo and what amazes me when I fly back and forth is the amount of farms with paved runways .

Re: North Dakota Strips

I've also noticed that too, quite a bit of farmland around ND have pavement airstrips. Must be cropduster ops in and out of there.
Starbuck, MN. I've heard of that somewhere before but can't remember where or who from. May have to go and check that out. There is a river out in western ND I've been eyeballing with sections of dried up riverbed that have gravel bars. May have to make my way out west to check it out.

On the topic of strips, my EAA chapter 1342 is having our annual Hog Roast at Heyde Filed 5miles north of Grand Forks International, just on the edge of the Class Delta. ALL are welcome! Sorry for short notice!

Here is our Facebook post:

You're invited to join EAA Chapter 1342 for our annual Hog Roast!

Nestled along the woods and up against a corn field, Heyde Field provides the perfect backdrop for this annual fall fly-in! Join us on Friday night for an airport campout, bonfire, and cook out. Dinner will be served at roughly 7 p.m.

Saturday morning, there will be donuts and coffee at 8:30 a.m. At roughly 11 a.m. we will serve our delicious roasted hog along with all the fixin's!

Whether you are driving in or flying in, we hope you are able to join us! For a more detailed post of the flyin, check the Events/flyins section of BCP.

Have you flown into S28, Peace Garden Airport? You can walk across the highway to http://www.peacegarden.com/

I used to picnic there in summertime and listen to concerts put on by the talented young attendees of the International Music Camp. Their 2017 schedule is linked on their home page at http://internationalmusiccamp.com/

Fly safely,
Pat

You know I have flown into S28. Only a really quick stop though for the ND Airport Passport Stamp, then turn and burn home racing weather back to the east. Would definitely like to return though and hear some music, maybe I'll try and make it back up there. Thanks for info on the music camp schedule!!

Garrison Dan Recreational Airport, 37A is interesting located below the big dam and within the fish hatchery.

The place is covered with straight gravel roads. I land in front of my Moms house in Jamestown.

Bump... thinking about a social-distancing style trip in May to the only state I haven't been to. Anybody know of any cool strips in NoDak that allow camping? Grass and running water preferred but not required.

Re: North Dakota Strips

Old thread, but if you want to venture into MN, there are a lot of private grass strips around where most of the owners are welcoming. Most of these strips are shorter, so you need a fairly decent shorter field type plane. I'm close to Itasca State Park.

Re: North Dakota Strips

Mock! bringing your old thread back to life it seems.

ND has lots of neat grass strips. Lots of private ones, some pretty cool public ones too. Around Grand Forks area- Mc Ville (8M6, neat approach over silos) and Arthur (1A2) are strictly grass. Crookston (CKN), Warren (D37), Grafton (GAF), and Park River (Y37) are paved with grass options. Grafton has a good taco Tuesday place nearby.

Check out the FunForPilots.com (https://www.funforpilots.com/unpaved-airstrips/) airstrip map for some good gouge. I think they have a camping guide also.
