Hi there,...... first post, new member. I'm wondering if there are any more North Star owners out there. I just purchased the plane and am amazed with the performance.....I've been flying my SNJ-5 for 30 years now and have to really put myself in another time and another place to keep my airspeeds and approaches where they should be....a good learning experience though.

Yep, sure did. His hangar was right across from my SNJ, so watched the whole building process. And who might you be...?

Mike:
A few years ago I was learning to fly in a Super Cub (which I ultimately bought) and was trying to figure out what I wanted to buy. I had looked at North Stars and somehow found that Don was making one. I communicated with him via e-mail and always hoped to get down that way and fly with him. Didn't happen. I never met Don, but he was a very nice guy. I hope he is well.

Don's a great guy....had some medical issues with the feds, so trans ferred the plane to me and his enthusiasm to his new 4 WD Jeep. I have great guilt enjoying his "child" as much as I do....

Wow does that story sound eerily familiar. One of my two business partners is a little more than 20 years older than me; he just turned 74. He really got me into flying and sold me his Super Cub, which he immediately replaced with a then brand new 2002 Cub Crafters Top Cub on Wipline Amphibs.
Anyway, about a year ago he basically stopped flying and bought a 4WD jeep and has been messing around in the deserts of California, Nevada and Oregon. I plead with him to at least take a Sat phone, but what the hell, he's having a ball. He just asked me to sell his Top Cub.
If you are ever flying the North Star north, shoot me a message. Santa Rosa is a good place to stop over.

Hi Mike,
Welcome!
Steve Durtschi, UBCP President, is building a Northstar. It is nearly ready for covering. PM me, and I can give you his info if you do not already have it.

Little off topic here but how do you guys feel the Northstar compares to the SmithCub. I was intersted in both planes at one time but ended up building a Murphy Rebel. I am still interested in the two different planes.

Yep that would be me. One hangar between Todd and Me. Saw him about an hour ago going flying. I usually stop by the hangar on my way home if not to fly then just to sit on the couch, drink a beer and admire the Maule..After all what are our clubhouses for. Beer and soft sofas and flying.

Wow, I don't get around near enough.
Had not heard of this aircraft. But man do I like the looks of that Galaxie.
Thanks Hottshot for posting that link. One more thing to spend the lottery on! Better go buy a ticket
