NOVA: Bombing Hitler's Dams

My local PBS station is currently airing a new episode of NOVA in HD tonight titled "Bombing Hitler's Dams".
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/military/bombing-hitler-dams.htmlThey are using a Buffalo Airways DC-4 to bounce bombs off the water, similar to what they did with the Lancasters during Operation Chastise in '43. It a pretty neat episode so far and there is some pretty good footage of the DC-4 flying low. I am sure it will be rerun at some point, so keep an eye out for it. Maybe it will even show up on the net somewhere.

Great episode...Ernie & Mikee hammered it down in no time! Right in Northern BC this past summer. You guys need to watch that, its fantastic...and if someone wants to borrow the Season 1 or 2 of the series, PM me and I'll mail it to ya and then you can post that its available to lend again...it could be a travelling US set or I can get you a new one at discount if you wish. Too bad it doesnt Air in the US like it does here north of 48 on History Channel every Wednesday night but then again, we dont get to see that new flying show in AK either

Yah, that was a good one! The thing that kept running through my mind all the way through it though, was who was footing the bill for that whole deal, and why?
You could sure tell that's a comfortable crew in that 4!

Mostly the film company who is making the WWII documentary and I'm sure History channel pitched in somewhat

Great show just can't believe they pulled off the real raids at night in enemy territory that low.

It was never clear to me how they kept the bomb spinning for the duration of the flight during the real raids. Just as amazing was that the Germans had the dam rebuilt and were back in production in 4 1/2 months! I guess with "expendable" slave labor and a willingness to work people to death anything is possible.
