I might be flying a cub in the next week or two down the highway route and wondered if anyone else is. It sounds cold and time consuming, and it seems buddy-system worthy.

Definitely "Buddy Worthy" if you can find someone.
Also Pre Heaters wing and engine covers etc.
Keep us updated

Keep the Greasy side down!
Watson. My old home town. Caught the flying bug there. Still have friends. Spent a week there on floats this summer.
I hope the weather cooperates. Should be an awesome trip. Take a high limit credit card and clear your calendar. You may need to wait out a system or two.

I'm going to be in and out of Anchorage in the next couple weeks. If I'm around when you are I'd be glad to run you around town, etc. PM me if you need anything.

Hit me up when you are close to Grande Prairie. I have a room for you and auto fuel if you prefer.

home hand jam "wizard"
Thanks guys! I'm not sure who the mounty guy is but I'll keep an eye out!
It seems like a small window of decent wx could occur the 16th through Yukon.

Have fun!
I've done a bunch of winter runs up and down the AlCan.
It always works out one of two ways...
A tiny sliver of wx so you fly the whole f**king thing in one day...
Or
Two weeks of shitty, expensive motel rooms watching the snow come down in Watson Lake or Mackenzie, learning all you ever wanted to know about Canadian cable TV.
It's all good!

Amen! I was stuck in Mackenzie for two days last fall. Shity hotel, Williston Lake Lodge. Room never got above 50 degrees. Only good thing about Mackenzie in my mind is Trench Aviation Fuels.

There's great snowmobiling right out of MacKenzie. That's about it. Haha.

I'm a new guy around here but saw this post and figured I'd chime in. I'll be taking my 206 from AK to Bremerton, WA mid December for an engine swap so if you don't make it down in Nov and want to team up in Dec let me me know. -Zac

That's a long ways to fly for an engine swap. Why not do it in Alaska?

A friend of mine owns Avian Aeronautics there and I've flown behind his engines and all of them have been incredibly smooth and no issues with them. My prop is also due calendar time so by the time I package and ship engine (to avian) and prop (to northwest propeller) I might as well jump in the plane and fly it down. Not much else to do in the dead of winter in AK right?
