Nylon locknuts for wing attach hardware
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
In the process of ordering new locknuts for a 172 wing attach hardware I accidentally ordered the nylon locknut version as opposed to the all metal locknut version that was originally removed.
Just curious why nylon locknuts wouldn't be ok to use for wing attach hardware? Seems like high temperatures wouldn't be an issue?
I'm more just frustrated at myself for ordering the wrong stuff but curious what people's thoughts are on this...

I don’t own a Cessna, I don’t know what’s legal on a Cessna. But on my (also certified) airplane, the wing mount bolts call for AN365 nylon locking nuts.

The first question is what was the original hardware? Was the metal locknut used at some point because that is what the had on the shelf. The other issue is down the line if another IA decides it is not original equipment will it become an issue. I would not hesitate to use a nylock but that is just me.

FWIW the early C180 IPC calls out MS20634 nuts which are metal self-locking.
