O-240-A ?

I was just reading where the Cessna 150 was built under license in France and sold as the Reims F150. At least some of these came with a 130-horse Rolls Royce (aka Continental) O-240-A. Anyone ever come across one of these engines? Sounds like a bored and/or stroked O-200, same displacement as the more-recent IO-240 Continental, but carberated and with the old O-200 style cylinders.
Seems like this engine would be an excellent upgrade for anything fitted with a C-85 C-90 or O-200. Should be pretty much of a bolt-on, as opposed to something needing a new mount, etc.
For that matter, what's going on with the IO-240? They came out with that one 12 or 15 years ago-- kinda aimed it at the homebuilt market, but I haven't seen where it really caught on. I think Diamond might have offered it in the Katana at one time, but otherwise it's been a fizzle. I think it would be a good upgrade for the smaller Continentals, but personally would prefer a carberated not injected version. Does TCM even sell them anymore?

I think TCM has their hands full with the 0-200 as it seems to have developed a nasty habit of spitting rocker arm shafts thru the rocker box covers.
Check www.J3-Cub.com for the rest of the story.

D. , can you be post a link to the specific thread which discusses this? I clicked on your link, looks like a good site but lots of posts on deveral tthread just today, none of which looked like they were about spitting out rocker arm shafts.
Looked like a pretty good site, even if you're not a J3 person. I might have to check it out some more. Probably some good Continental 4-bahger stuff on there as well as Cub stuff.

I searched & found the applicable discussion. "Spitting the rocker arm shafts thru the rocker box covers" seems like an overstatement & a bit misleading. Looks like TCM has redesigned how the rocker arm shafts are retained. Instead of them floating, and the valve cover keeping them from drifting all the way out-- they now have a small flat machined on them, with a set screw (presumably thru the rocker arm shaft boss) to keep them in place. Apparently the set screws have been discovered to back off, allowing the sharp end of the shaft to rub a hole in the valve cover. Sounds like a simple fix to me... loctite the set screw, and/or a longer set screw with a locknut. Maybe neither method is approved and/or feasible, don't know.
This is apparently on the "new style" O-200A. What about the even newer O-200-D I've heard mentioned-- same arrangement?

The DA-20s at the FBO where I used to work on 'em all had IO-240s, and I hardly had any trouble at all with 'em. We replaced two of 'em at about 2400 hours due to fuel injection problems, but the engines were still just fine.

"Oh, look... a dead bird"

-looks up- "Where?"

Cylinder head looks quite a bit different on the IO-240, the valve cover does anyway. same as on an IO-360, while the O-200 is the same as a C-145/O-300, as well as the smaller 4 bangers. Good to hear that the IO-240's run out well.
