I'm always curious about this place, I've never seen any changes for the last 30+ years, and never anyone there. No power, probably no water, built back before solar got readily available. Great view, and reasonable access, not too remote. A lot of effort and some amount of money to just let sit there, oh well, not my problem.

I’ve seen this place from the ground before but I can’t remember where it is. I remember thinking it was a cool structure but a lousy location. Maybe that’s why nobody is ever there.

Ch'jjdii, chindi in English. Ghosts or bad spirits. When you visit a hogan, traditionally, you must sit in your chidi, car, for some time until the ch'jjdii (possibly following you) get bored and leave. It is taboo to approach the hogan quickly.

All the floor does is take the floor live loads, not the dead loads of the walls and roof. The chimney is on it's own foundation, and in fact no doubt supports the center of the floor, and the roof loads are transmitted down to the footings through the walls, the same way a framed building works.

Funny...I drove past that house twice in the past week.

You can just see the ends of the log floor joist for the upper floor. They extend out over the lower walls and hold up the upper story outside walls and half of the roof load. The fireplace is only supporting one end of the board so to speak. In this case holding down on the interior end of the logs. If the logs are big enough they will support the weight.

I downloaded the onxhunt app a year ago. Not cheap for what it is, but super convenient way to answer the question: "who owns this?"

I hit a whole herd of pronghorn near there, south of Bellevue on 20, last year on my way to Boise. Had a business meeting, but also bought my TrickAir skis there. I’m embarrassed to say how many pronghorns died. Sorry Idaho. Respect your wildlife. State police said it was likely a record. They were going to try to have the meat salvaged.

Had no idea how dense the wildlife is in that region!
