I amazed to say we have a smaller group, maybe about 10-14 Elk, that live on private land behind the Newport City Airport on the coast.

When I was taking off from Newport last week, I'd say the heard was 30-40 strong right behind the fence and the thresh hold for 20!

Same day saw a heard of 30+ on Cascade Head.

And also saw the paddle in big wave competition off Depot Bay... Good day for some coastal flying.

I was looking for elk in the hills north of Corvallis yesterday, found one by itself, then a group of 6. If only it was easy to land close to em!

Cool ! Glad you are making it to the coast with great weather! Does Mary's Peak still have snow?

Yeah, Oregon is on the Big Wave Tour. Greg Long, Peter Mel and a few other big boys come to compete. It's like Mavericks on steroids some times. Greg Long from California won the Eddie at the Bay. Beat Slater.

Fly strong dude!

No snow on Mary's Peak, there was rarely any snow on it at all this year.

It was a bummer we circled around the surfers for 15 min but never saw anyone catch anything, it was pretty mellow that day, not the big waves they were hoping for I imagine. I wasn't aware at the time it was the competition but when I told a friend what I saw he was super jealous. It must be horrible being a spectator for those events, you wouldn't be able to see anything from shore.

Re: OeryGun Beech Party!!

Surfing attracts a special few in Oregon. It is not like Hawaii where 1000s of people shut the islands down during a huge swell. I kind of enjoy the cold, being alone, and nasty surf. Makes me feel a little stronger after a session.

I really enjoy watching the kite surfers at South Beach. One day if I lose 20 pounds I may try taking lessons!

Hope your trip goes well. It is going to be a long one behind a Rotax, be careful. You will see some of the coolest scenery on that route! I wish I could do it. I soloed in Scottsdale, AZ in high school. Flew before I had a car. Been to Sedona many times. There was a school for bad boys there in the 70's. A few of my friends were "sent" there.
