Note to self- add boat anchor (qty. 1, size large) to backcountry flight kit prior to next skiplane outing

Re: OH.......MAAAA.........GAAAAAWWWWDDDDD!!!

This is one of those times that, provided you had hull insurance on the bird, you would want the chopper to land by the plane to pick you up so that it would just blow the plane over and off of the cliff. Will probably cost more to rescue and chopper the bird out than it's worth......sad, but true cuz it looks like a nice little T Craft. Apparently the owner just got it last year too.

Re: OH.......MAAAA.........GAAAAAWWWWDDDDD!!!

Actually, in much of the backcountry, you're going to have to get the wreckage outta there anyway, so you definitely don't want THAT job to be any more complex than it has to be.

The grapevine says the pilot and passenger got out of it, then the pilot got back in to retrieve the ELT...

Reminds me of the movie "Alaska", when pilot Dirk benedict was hurt and stuck in a float Cub in a similar predicament.

Re: OH.......MAAAA.........GAAAAAWWWWDDDDD!!!

Re: OH.......MAAAA.........GAAAAAWWWWDDDDD!!!

Yeah that happened right here in my own backyard. They hauled the chopper out and had it covered up so tight you couldn't see it at all. All very hush hush but nosey people will find a way  And I agree you guys who ski that sort of terrain got something missing in the brain area.

That kid crashes better than anyone I know. He's got guts and he got his plane out. It will make a great story for him some day.

Re: OH.......MAAAA.........GAAAAAWWWWDDDDD!!!

Apparently his predicament has caused quite a stir on the internet. I even got a link to the newspaper article from an aviation daily rag that is emailed. Poor guy ........wonder if he is brave enough to show at the trade show in Anchorage this weekend......lol. At least he's young and still doesn't know he isn't invincible. Still, I bet his pucker factor was completely off the chart. I do have a question for those of you that fly skiis. If he was sliding on top of crusty ice, why didn't he just add power and go around?
